How to Style Solid Color Dresses
As spring approaches, I will be wearing more dresses with a few less layers. For this post, I decided to shop my closet and share some ways you can accessorize your solid color dresses. Unlike a print dress, you might want to add a little pizzazz to a solid color dress, so here are a few ways to do that. I decided to share examples of 5 different dresses (different cuts and lengths), but each combination could be interchanged with another.
Add a Scarf
I love this teal/turquoise dress that I found on clearance at a local boutique. A halftee was necessary for cleavage coverage, and my thrifted scarf paired perfectly with it. I think I paid 10c for that scarf!
Add a Statement Purse
Sometimes you can use your purse for more than its primary use and wear it as part of your outfit. Because it is a belt bag, it breaks up the solid color of the outfit and modernizes the dress a little. My husband said I look like I belonged on the little house in the prairie before I added it. I am also wearing my lace Halftee which I feel always add something special under my clothes. I wear my Halftees in size medium and don’t forget to use code MIREILLE 20 for 20% off!
Add Statement Jewelry and a Belt
A pendant necklace in a contrasting color is always a good choice. This turquoise necklace (from my grandmother) is one of my favorite jewelry pieces with my new to me turquoise ring.
Here are two options for toppers: I wore the shacket IRL as it was cool and I was not going anywhere special, but the moto jacket would be perfect for going out. My choice of shoes (these water resistant wedge sneakers) were because it was a wet day!
Add Statement Shoes
Nothing like a pair of cowboy boots to add interest to an outfit! I love these and wear them almost once a week in the cooler months, but they are also fun to wear in the transitional days before the heat sets in. I added a thrifted denim jacket for warmth and interest since the dress does not have a waist.
Add a jacket
Choose your favorite denim or moto jacket to add to your dress and you have instantly added an element of interest to your outfit. A moto jacket is fun because it gives that feminine/edgy look.
Of course, I could have used any of these with any of the dresses! I actually had to spend a little time looking at the dresses before deciding which combination I would photograph. I had many toppers, shoes, scarves and jewelry that I could have chosen in my closet which means that there are that many more outfits that I could make with things I already own. Shopping ones closet at its best!

I almost only wear solid clothes. And these are very good tips of how to add something to give it more interest.

While you focused on solid dresses, I think most of these would also work with print dresses. You look lovely as always, Mireille!

Your cowboy boots are so on trend right now and I love how you paired them with your dress! These are all great tips for dresses and I can’t wait to start wearing dresses more again. Melt that snow! The second dress, the one that your husband said looked like Little House on the Prarie, caught my eye right away. I really like how you layered the lacey top underneath, super cute. Hope you have a great week ahead.

I think that is my favorite way I have ever worn that dress. I am thinking of getting the black lace Halftees as it would be really cool too!

Thanks, that outfit really turned out well. I am in need of wearing my skirts now, they deserve a turn in the limelight!

A wonderful variety of accessorizing options here! The scarf option is near and dear to my heart of course (and 10 cent scarf?! terrific). The saturated orchid dress with the pops of turquoise and animal print shoes is an amazing color combination!
