Outfit Inspiration: a Week of Neutral Spring Outfits
I actually wore these outfits during a week of “false spring” the first week of February: this is when the weather tricks you into thinking that winter is over and it is sunny and 75 degrees! As I was still shopping my closet and it was warmer than it had been, I decided it would be fun to see how many “new” outfits I could come up with tan neutrals and a little denim thrown in. I really like the outfits I came up with and it made me realize once again how complete my wardrobe is. By the way, Jodie shared some neutral outfits and tips on Monday, so stop by her blog post for more ideas.
This is the outfit that started my foray into neutral outfits: I paired one of my crochet sweater with some cropped jeans and added my fun calf skin mules. These were given to me by my friend Rachel and I have reached for them over and over. I am not a mule type of shoe person, but I think the pointy toes and the cow print really makes them unique. Since the sweater is cropped, I wore a tank under.
Years ago, I bought several pairs of Old Navy Pixie pants and this is the one pair that I have kept: I think the neutral camo print is unique and more classic that the other prints I had bought. I tend to pair it with neutrals, but this was the first time I paired it with this thrifted tan and gold top. I wear my bracelets the most in fall and spring, so I took advantage of a mild day to add some gold and neutral ones. Another winner!
I always forget how comfortable my thrifted snakeskin pants are. I decided this week of neutrals was a great time to pull them out and since the weather in the mornings was cool enough, this thrifted short sleeve sweater worked out well. I am not sure the olive sneakers really match, but if olive is a neutral, then I am good!
This crochet sweater is part of a set (I am sharing the matching skirt next) and one that I love in the spring too. I wanted to wear some neutral shoes so I picked my snakeskin sneakers which have really impressed me: I bought them several years ago at Target and they have really held up well. I will repeat again: while I am not always impressed with the quality of clothing at Target, their shoes have typically been winners for me.
I had fun with layers with the skirt part of the crochet set. I wore a Halftee under the vest for coverage but also added a scarf and a denim dress turned into duster. I enjoyed playing with textures for this one.
Bonus neutral outfit: we took the boys to a new place in town: the Jerks Soda Fountain so I changed into this after my walk. The one thing I like about tan and denim is that you don’t have to think about it: these joggers are so comfy and so is the sweater. I added the necklace and fun mules again. My outfits this particular week definitely had a similar vibe, but it’s a vibe that I like!

Wow!! You really created some fabulous neutral outfits! We tend to equate neutral with bland, but these all have such cool details! Way to go, Mireille!!

Thanks, Marsha! I think adding something textured helps!

We have now a few very warm days, in fact I’m sitting outside in the sun as we speak! I love the neutrals, although I hardly wear it myself. But I think it looks great on blondes!

Thanks, Nancy! That is a good point: neutrals might look different depending on hair/skin coloring. Then maybe a different neutral like brown or olive works best.

Very pretty neutrals!
I don’t think I have any neutral colors (except black) at all myself.

These are all fabulous examples of chic neutral outfits!!
I especially love how you wore a tank. Under the shorter top so that you’re the boss of your clothes!!

These are all so lovely and definitely have that spring vibe… though our fool’s spring weather tends to be more like 50 if we’re lucky but not 75. Not for another few months anyway… but I can’t wait!

I think we get another few warm days this coming week. Trees are now blooming!

I love how you creatively shopped your own closet to put together fresh neutral outfits! Your mix of textures, prints, and layering really shows how versatile neutrals can be, and the denim accents add such a nice contrast. The crochet set sounds especially fun, and I completely agree—Target shoes can be surprisingly good! This post is a great reminder that neutrals don’t have to be boring, and they can make getting dressed effortless.
