Spring Additions: 2 Thrifted Trench Coats

Last month, my friend Rachel and I got together for some thrifting fun and lunch. While I had a list in mind and I was able to check off a couple of things on that list, I came across some fun finds I couldn’t pass up. The first thing I bought was a red trench coat, NWT from Express. Since I already had found this trench coat, did I really need the second one that was missing a belt? I did not, however the color was too good for me to leave it and I knew both would get worn in the spring and fall.

Red Trench Coat

Thrifting with Rachel is always fun: we catch up on each other’s lives, we discover new thrift stores and return to favorites and we usually end with lunch. Lunch is always part of our outings as I drive up to Chattanooga and want to have a pleasant ride back home.

I paid $10 for the jacket and I decided to donate my red wool jacket that I only wore once a year for a blog post the past few years. This lightweight jacket will definitely get more wears as it work for rainy days as well as windy days and add a great pop of color without being bulky and heavy.

My favorite hand me down of the year, my mules, are peeking below my denim: I really do love that pointy toe and need to look for that detail in shoes while thrifting. There is something elegant about a pointy toe.

Yellow Trench coat

I almost didn’t bring this yellow trench home as I had just bought the red one that fit me perfectly, but who could say no to this sunshiny yellow. Not all yellows and mustards are created equal and I thought this color really was a good shade of yellow for my coloring.

This trench was missing the belt and was looser on me, but I thought that I could use a long skinny scarf as a belt. That item will be added to my list of what to be on the lookout for when I am thrifting.

I just realized as I wrote this post that both of these outfits minus the black tee are second hand from head to toe! Isn’t that amazing? I do love the hunt for a treasure when I thrift and the price tag is also another benefit from shopping second hand. I haven’t shopped Poshmark or Ebay in quite a while as there is nothing that I really need: thrifting is a way for me to enjoy shopping while not breaking the bank and it allows me creativity.
