It’s my Birthday! I am 50!

I never thought I would be looking forward to being 50. I think I dreaded turning 30, I was fine turning 40, but I am pretty proud of being 50. I am in good health (I have been working on my nutrition for the past couple of months and am curious as to how my numbers will look later this month for my yearly physical), I try to move 5 times a week, and have good sleep habits. I am a mother of 4 boys, one in college, one in high school, one in middle school and one in primary school. Yes, they are each at different schools and will continue in this manner except for one year when I will have a senior and a freshman in high school. I am a wife and daughter too!

I thought this tulle dress would be perfect for my birthday blog post and I am planning to wear it to my 50th birthday party tonight! It was a last minute buy on my Arizona trip this summer. Just Be Youtiful boutique had a $20 clearance rack and I just had to try this dress! Stop by the blog tomorrow to see how I can style it for everyday.

Since the dress is strapless, I felt the need for  a necklace and this chunky necklace was a fun addition. I mentioned earlier this summer in this post, how I reach for these shoes and this clutch when I want to dress up a look. Both add a great pop of color to the pale green tulle. My earrings are beaded starfish (from the same boutique).

I definitely have fun getting dressed nowadays, enjoy the outdoors (I am really hoping to hike more regularly this fall), love fall and winter and love to travel. My favorite flowers are sunflowers and zinnias and I love the scent of lavender. My favorite vacation was my 20th anniversary trip to Costa Rica and even though I have lived in the states for 30 + years now, I still miss France. I wouldn’t want to live there permanently, but a 2 year jaunt would be nice or a regular 2 week trip would be cool.

I would rather save my money for family vacations than regular pedicure and haircuts, so on average, I get my haircut 2 to 3 times a year and colored once, and get a pedicure maybe 3 times a year. I have never had a spa day or a massage and would love that one day. I love fruits, cheese and ice cream, but I am learning how to eat better and fuel my body the correct way. My favorite book this year has been The Glucose Revolution by Jessie Inchauspe because it has taught me how to eat to improve my health and how to reduce my glucose spikes. Thank you, Jodie for being the kick-start to a change in my eating habits (and I hope to continue) working on those habits.

I have enjoyed my kids at each stage in their life, but I really don’t miss the baby stages even though they were really cute babies! I try to enjoy each child at each stage and look forward to the next one. I am loving having a college kid, but I am loving having the boys at their stages too. Of course, they aren’t perfect, but neither am I. My youngest will graduate high school the year I turn 60.

What am I looking forward to this year? I am hoping to balance the stress and the fun! I am not sure what the year will bring health-wise for my parents or stress-wise for the kids. I hope I can continue good habits (daily walks, good nutrition, prayer..) to deal with anything that may cause anxiety. I am looking forward to our vacations and time as a family. And I hope to enjoy all the little moments that bring me joy during the day: a favorite podcast, a morning coffee on the porch, admiring the birds coming to the bird feeders, a walk, a favorite outfit.

I hope to make time for friends and to a better job of planning dates with the hubby. We do have an anniversary trip planned for October.

And there you have it, I am 50 today, and you may have learned a few more things about me today.

A bientôt!
