Inspired by Jill: Cargo Skirt and Black
One of the ways that inspires me to shop my closet is to find inspiration for outfits from others, typically bloggers I have followed for a while. I have gotten a little particular about some of the accounts I follow on IG because I do get tired of the mentality of buy buy buy. One of the things I like about Jill from Doused in Pink is that she often shares post where she shares several ways to wear an item or shares a collection of outfits she has worn following a theme (for example how to wear leopard print over 50).

In a recent post, she shared 3 ways to wear a cargo maxi skirt and the outfit above drew my eye: I had pieces in my closet to make it my own!

While I have a pair of socks booties, I decided to make a few changes to my outfit to make it slightly different. I chose a pair of booties I bought from Valerie’s Avenue a year or so ago. It is one of my favorite pairs because of the beautiful embroidery in the back. I now am an affiliate of Valerie’s Avenue and have met Yenni a couple of times. She works full time and also has her online boutique where she shares some really neat pieces as her small side business.

The faux leather jacket is a fun piece to have when I want to add a little edgy feel to an outfit. I also added some fun jewelry I received as part of a giveaway I won from Halftee. I really have enjoyed wearing both the earrings and necklace the last couple of months!

My husband gave me that pretty heart necklace with the amethyst for our 22nd anniversary: he did well!

I wore the skirt and the bodysuit with olive sneakers mid September. The skirt is one that is wearable all year round which made it a good purchase back in the spring.

Slits on cargo skirt makes them a lot easier to wear: otherwise the slim fit would make it sometimes difficult to walk in especially if you tend to walk fast like me. I am thinking a cozy cream sweater and tall tan boots (or cream combat boots) would be a cute winter outfit!

And if you do not have an olive cargo skirt, don’t be too literal with this outfit: you probably have a pair of olive pants whether they are cargo style, jogger style or even skinny style!

This turned out fabulous, and you’re right. You don’t need a cargo skirt to replicate the great look.

Exactly! I should actually do that next, show it with my cargo pants and even a pair of sage skinnies I have.

I love your take on this look! Your cargo skirt is so cute with that leather jacket. I work for a carpet cleaning company so I don’t get to dress cute most days but I love to put together outfits to wear on the weekends. I will have to see what I have in my closet to try and recreate this. Thanks for sharing!

Cargo pants, whether olive or not would work!

I love this edgy outfit on you, Mireille! Your bag looks like it matches exactly! Those boots are stunning! I don’t have any olive pants at all…can you believe that?

That bag is perfect for fall! I have different ones over the years and got rid of a few. Liking the fit of my last one which are a little cropped and kind of looser fit.

I love how you’ve put your personal spin on Jill’s outfit inspiration! It’s so refreshing to see bloggers embrace the idea of “shopping their closet” and getting creative with pieces they already own. Your twist on the cargo maxi skirt with those beautiful embroidered booties and the faux leather jacket is so stylish, and I’m sure it adds that perfect balance of edgy and chic. That heart necklace from your husband is such a sweet and meaningful addition too—what a lovely gift!
We’re almost at the end of the week! How’s everything going on your side? I just posted a new blog at http://www.melodyjacob.com—feel free to check it out!
