Booth Western Museum: Western Costumes from the Silver Screen
A few weeks ago, I decided to take a gander at the temporary exhibit at our local western museum. I am trying to plan more regular outings in my weeks, so it is not all about errands and necessities all of the time. It can be something as simple as a picnic or a visit to a local farm, or in this case, a local museum. The exhibit was part of the Davey collection. John Davey lives in New York and has been collecting Hollywood related items for several decades. He has more than 3000 Hollywood and fashion related items, many of which are from western movies and television programs.…

An Afternoon in Dahlonega, GA
The week before school started, I decided it would be fun to have an afternoon outing away from the house. We have visited Dahlonega at least once a year, but always enjoy returning. There are different restaurant options, antique shops to visit and it is less than a 2 hour drive from home. This afternoon, we were on a bit of a time constraint and I will have to remember to not plan that way next time. I think we would have enjoyed spending a little more time there. This time we decided to visit the Gold Museum which is housed in the building behind me. I wore a thrifted…

Heard Museum: American Indian Art
The two highlights of this summer have been my family trip to New York and my solo trip to Arizona to visit Jodie and her husband. I have know Jodie for years through her blog, we met once at the airport before my visit last year, and this was my second visit to her home. Jodie and her husband are great hosts, and we had a great time visiting, eating and exploring the area! My flight arrived in Phoenix around 9 am and we headed to the Heard Museum from the airport! We first took a set of blog pictures (coming on the blog soon!) before waiting for a museum…

Port Jefferson: Long Island Museum
Even though we have visited Long Island a few times, we actually have never visited the LI Museum. As it turned out, they were between exhibits in the main museum areas and doing some renovating, so only the Carriage museum was open to the public. Because the whole museum was not available, the entrance fee was waived. The carriage museum shares the history of transportation before the automobile. The carriages are house in a large building which has 3 floors. Most if not all are real carriages and vehicles that were donated to the museums. They are not replicas. I found that to be really neat as often items, larger…

Tbilisi Wine Museum
While researching some things to do in Tbilisi that we had not done before, I came across this blog Wander Lush written by an Australian journalist who now lives in Kutaisi, Georgia. The website turned out to be a great resource from itineraries, boutique hotel suggestions, places to shop and places to visit. The Tbilisi Wine Museum was only 5 min from our hotel and its location underground perfect for a hot day. The museum is underground this building which holds another museum as well as some fancy shops below. Our guide spoke great English and we learned a lot about the special process of qveri wine: Georgian wine made…

Tellus Science Museum
The Tellus Science Museum was more of a destination for us when the children were younger and it had been at least a couple of years since we had visited it. The museum had several permanent exhibits including a mineral exhibit, a fossil exhibit and a flight and space exhibit. It also has visiting exhibits which right now include a interactive sportsology exhibit, an amber exhibit and opening soon, a patents: the engine of inventions exhibit. The Transportation and flight and space exhibit I walked quickly through the section about the history of cars (read all of the signs too many times before, but I did enjoy revisiting the flight…

Summer fun: Visiting a House Museum
A few weeks ago, we didn’t feel like going to the pool, but it was hot and humid so we decided to visit this house near our library. I looked up the tour hours and we called ahead of time to make sure there would not be a group. Of course, I didn’t check the types of payments accepted and when we got there, I realized that it was cash only. I typically do not carry cash but the tour guide was nice enough to allow us to do the tour and I went to the bank right after to return with our payment. The house is called the Rose…

Booth Western Museum
The boys and I wanted an indoor activity on a hot summer day, so we headed out to the Booth Museum. We have visited it several times and even had a membership for a year, but it is always interesting to visit because they have some visiting exhibits several times a year. The current exhibits were the Many Metals, Many Fires: Strauss, Ivy, Rogers with contemporary sculptures using metals, and an exhibit where the artist Heide Presse studied the journals written by Keturah Penton Belknap between 1839 -1848 and created an exhibition about the families Westward journey. Sculptures I think we enjoyed both exhibits equally but this one was definitely really…

Savoy Car Museum
A few weeks ago, we decided to visit a new car museum that opened in the area as it was a cold Saturday afternoon. The Savoy Car Museum opened in December and displays an assortment of automobiles and works of art. It is located between Chattanooga and Atlanta just of off I75 in Cartersville. According to the website, the exhibits will change which I think is a great idea since these focused on a few eras and we were disappointed not to see some other time periods. This rusted 1954 Plymouth Savoy was discovered on the grounds during construction. The current exhibits include American Racing, the Great American Classics, Woodies…

Booth Western Art Museum
On Monday, I share an outfit that was inspired by my cowboy boots and Pinterest and since it was the end of summer, I decided that the perfect location and outing for me and the boys would be the Booth Western Art Museum. We have visited several times but still enjoy the couryard with the large sculptures, the museum with the visiting exhibits as well as the permanent ones. Anytime I visit an art museum, I am just in awe of the talented artists! Whether is is clay work, wood art, paintings, any media from used has my appreciation! The museum’s permanent collections include a presidential gallery, a cowboy gallery…
