One skirt, 5 ways

Since returning from our trip to Europe, I have been focusing on budgeting and saving! We enjoyed our trip so much that I want to continue to focus on family vacations. Since we live on one income, one of the ways that I can make that happen is by being careful where I spend my money. That is why most fashion related post I write might focus on one purchase worn many different ways or sharing ways to remix what you have in your closet as well as outfits inspired by other bloggers that I can recreate from items in my closet. Of course, I still will continue to buy clothes (I do love them so!) but I am going to curb by desire for more! Case in point I did purchase a jumpsuit from Amazon this week and if it works out for me, I will share several ways to wear it. And hopefully I will find one or two dresses this month but hope to either thrift them or find them on super sale!

Today I am sharing a Modcloth skirt that I ordered before we went to France and I purchased it during the Memorial day sale so I paid less than $20 for it. I love this skirt!! I am wearing it in medium and it just fits at the waist so I would recommend sizing up since it typically wear size S in other brands. I first saw this skirt on Lindsey from Have Clothes Will Travel when she did a little pattern mixing.

Copy cat outfit

In this first outfit, I just copied Lindsey by choosing one of my black and white striped shirts. I also wanted to show the twirling factor of the skirt. I forgot to take any pictures showing that the skirt has pockets but yes, this skirt has pockets! It is fully lined and the yellow is so pretty and bright.

Black tank, earrings and sandals

Since black goes with everything, I chose black for my second look! I like this tank because it is a little more substantial than my other tanks but I need to get a few new basic tanks because they are showing some wear. This one definitely has had a long life. Since the outfit is fairly simple, I added my Nickel and Suede black nova earrings to add a little interest. My sandals are very old but I haven’t found a better pair to replace them so I will continue to wear them until they fall apart.

Simple tee with a little pattern mixing

I really like this look too! These are my favorite Payless wedges from a couple years back. I wanted give the look more interest and since I liked the stripes with the floral so much, I thought this scarf gave a little of the same vibe. I am wearing the same orange and pink ball earrings as in the first picture. I found them on clearance at Cracker Barrel and they have been worth every penny of the $6 I paid!

Casual with jean vest

I apoligize for the blurriness in this picture, maybe I should cut my son’s pay? This is my least favorite look but I wanted to be creative and I barely ever wear my denim vest (I bought it on Thredup). To keep it casual I added my Shoreline converse.

Purple blouse

Yes, you can wear your booties in the summer! I felt these were the most summer appropriate because of the low shaft and the lighter color. I don’t often tuck my shirts in but with this skirt I do like the look (I also tucked in the striped shirt). I found this blouse at TJ Maxx and like how the detailing at the shoulders added some interest to a simple tee. The different colors in this skirt really allow you to use a number of clothes in your closet! I have also worn it with orange.

In conclusion, I have no regrets about spending less than $20 for this pretty, well made Modcloth skirt! I can already imagine different looks for the fall and am very thankful to Lindsey to have shared it again when it went on sale!
