September Sunday Showcase: Shopping my Closet for Labor Day Outfits

Every year, on the first Monday of September we celebrate Labor Day. The day celebrates the social and economic achievements of American workers. As on other holidays celebrating our country, its history and its people I like to wear patriotic colors without being overly obvious about it. For this day, as I am attempting to refrain from shopping for the rest the year, I shopped my closet and came up with two outfits. I like to have different options, one a little dressier than the other. Don’t forget to stop by Ada’s blog to see more of her outfits.

Shorts and Graphic Tee

First of all, I had my first pedicure in a about a year! It was so nice to be pampered. When I was looking through my closet, this old favorite tee of mine jumped at me! Of course pairing with white shorts was an obvious choice to me as I wore denim shorts for the 4th of July and wanted to create something different. The wreath I have shared several times was an Aldi find a couple of years ago and I love that is is made of wood curls.

I had a number of sandals to choose from but decided a little pattern would be fun. These Old Navy leopard sandals have been in my closet for a number of years now. They always add interest to any outfit. I also wanted to share this easy diy project I made a couple of years ago with the beans and the jars: pour beans in a ziplock bag, add paint and coat beans with a couple squirts of acrylic paint. When they are all coated, transfer to a baking sheet covered with parchment paper and let air dry. Do that for each color. You could this with different colors for fall, Christmas or other holidays.

I think the key to any holiday outfit is to give a nod to the holiday without being tacky: no holiday sweater for me. I did use to buy Old Navy tees every year for the 4th but I have moved away from that. My burgundy Nickel and Suede earrings are my nod to red.

Dress and Tee

For my second outfit, I used the same tee but paired it with my dress.

The Target dress is more of a tangerine red even though it is described as red (t is not longer available). I have really enjoyed it this summer with and without a tee. Adding a tee to a dress gives the impression of a skirt and stretches your wardrobe. And navy is a fun addition to the tangerine.

I folded the tee under to give my outfit the proportions I thought worked the best. I chose my fun spotted earrings to replicate the pattern in the heart. Have fun with your clothes!

If you shop wisely and take inventory of your closet, it is pretty easy to come up with an outfit for any occasion. I came up with these 2 in about 5 minutes and I really like both and surpringly never wore either like this! We will be having a bbq with friends on this Labor Day and maybe go to the pool. Not sure which outfit I would wear but I really like my dress so I am leaning towards that one. It sure was a great buy!

Blogger Feature

My favorite post from last month’s Sunday Showcase is Kim’s of Fierce Fashion Blog with her ruffled top 3 ways. Not only she showed the versatile of this cute little light blue top but she made it! She is a genius with a needle and I love seeing what she creates!
