January Sunday Showcase and Link Up: Red in Winter
As the new year starts and I take a look back at the past year and my spending in the clothing category, I am reminded that I need to make sure that what I do purchase is versatile and will be worn frequently. As I take pictures of my daily outfits, I have realized how accessories add a fun dimension to an outfit and how I am drawn to certain things (sweaters vs cardigans) more than others. So if I don’t wear cardigans much, I really do not need to invest in more for example, even if they look cute on other people. In this post, I am sharing how a sweater I bought specifically to wear on Christmas day can be worn on any day of the week as well as other holidays such as Valentine’s day.
Today, Ada (Elegance and Mommyhood) and I are sharing our red turtleneck sweaters. After years of not wearing turtlenecks, I bought two turtleneck sweaters this year: as long as they are loose around the neck, I actually like them. Don’t forget to stop by Ada’s blog post to see more of her and Vivian’s outfit.
I wore a similar outfis to this for Christmas but wore my fur lined booties from Target and wore a pair of white and red hoop earrings. On this day, I decided to have a lot of fun with my accessories, first choosing my spotted leopard wedge sneakers. The sneakers are sold out in this print but still available for less than $40.00 in tan and black. I was glad I did not buy them full price but was able to get them for less than $30 when they were only a few left in a couple of sizes.
The red sweater was a Target find that Mama Loves Shopping shared on her Instagram. Looks like it is sold out online but you should be able to find in store. It is still available in a pretty light blue online. I typically wear child size masks from Old Navy and I ordered a few packs that were on sale when I ordered my sons’ sherpa hoodies a couple of weeks ago. You cannot beat 4 dollars for a pack of 5 and I like that they do not go too high on my face.
This is such an easy way to print mix! All of the prints are far from each other and work with the main pieces of the outfit. The camo crossbody clutch picks up the tan from the booties and the spotted cork earrings from Nickel and Suede pick up the white and the black wrap bracelets as well as the spots in the shoes.
Here is a closer detail of my two wrap bracelets. I picked these up on major sale in December. Victoria Emerson is always running sales so I would wait for a good one to buy one. The quality is really good. I think I picked up the white one when it was on sale for $11 ($16 with shipping).
By the way, all of these pictures were taken around the Tennessee aquarium and I will be sharing a little from our outing later this week or next.
Just like me, Ada put different patterns together but in a bolder way with her pants, scarf and beanie! I love what she has done here and how the black and white of the pants and beanie tie them together. This is such a fun and cute outfit!
Blogger Feature
Today’s blogger feature is Claire from Claire’s World. Claire is a UK blogger that I have been following for about 2 years now. I love how she shares a little bit of everything on her blogs: fashion, outings, cooking and running. In this particular post, Sparkly Tartan Skirt and Beautiful Butterfly Boots, she shares a fun holiday look with these boots that she found for an awesome deal of 3 pounds! I really need to look at different colored tights: these are really fun with the booties and skirt! Btw, this is Mollie her dog who is recovering from the removal of some cancerous tumors and is doing well!
Please link up your latest posts!
Look how cute little Vivian is in her red sweater too! Styling like her mama! I love that Vivian is wearing some leopard too and that Ada’s skirt has a cool tweed texture. Ada has a great collection of pattern tights… I do not own a single pair! I love how they add texture to outfits and create such visual interest.
While red is often associated with Christmas and Valentine’s day, it can be worn at any time and just gives a spark to an outfit and gives it life! Ada’s two outfits show how versatile a red sweater can be!
A bientôt!

I too have found that while I really like cardigans on others and have bought a few that I just don’t wear them much. I do, however, love my turtlenecks in all varieties but especially sweaters!!

It’s interesting that we do have to live and learn repeatedly that what works for others doesn’t always work for us!

Loving this red sweater and it looks fantastic paired with dark gray jeans! I too used to hate turtlenecks, I still feel constricted in them when I first put them on, but the few that I have are of such a comfortable knit that I get used to them quickly.
I don’t usually wear cardigans in winter as they just don’t work well with a coat, but like them as a light layer in the transitional months.
I need to get some kids masks. My masks constantly slide off. So annoying!!

That is why I barely ever wear adults ones! It’s funny my black jeans are not so black anymore so they do look kind of like grey in some pictures!

Fabulous showcase! Red is such a happy, vibrant color and so flattering on most people. Your outfit is wonderful and perfect for brightening a dreary winter’s day. And I adore your photos. Well done!

It sure is! Thanks, Rena! I had fun at the aquarium taking the pictures! Trying to think of some more fun spots for this month’s blog posts! There is a cool old stone cabin nearby at a state park, thinking that will be a good place!

I think red might rival yellow in my closet this year if I find what I would like to add in red for spring and summer!

Good tip on the masks! I haven’t tried the child sizes but I bet they would work well! And that plaid pack is super cute! I’ve been stubbornly trying to survive on 2 masks and I think I need to cave and get more variety!

My boys are liking the plaid ones too: they feel festive in them! I like that they are very inexpensive too.

Hey, I made it tou your blog – yeay! Even tried to comment on our Sunday Showcase posts from December but you had the comments closed.
1st) I love the beautiful brown bohemian dress from Wal Mart and that stunning, festive red peacoat. And Johnathan looked so cute all dressed up. =)
2nd) I am a huge fan of a neutral sweater dress and your taupe one from Target is sooo good. No wonder so many bloggers own it. I love sweater dresses with belts. You styled it perfectly!
3rd) So glad you started wearing turtlenecks again and you picked this red shimmery one with the little gift card I gave you. I love the photos today and this turtleneck is real nice, can work through February for VDay. I love all your accessories too. I have to try some of those Victoria Emmerson bracelets. You look great!

Will have to look at why the comments are closed. Maybe there is something that is set up that I need to change. Thanks for the compliments! Been wearing the sweater dress and the red sweaters every other week!
