January Sunday Showcase and Link Up: Red in Winter

As the new year starts and I take a look back at the past year and my spending in the clothing category, I am reminded that I need to make sure that what I do purchase is versatile and will be worn frequently. As I take pictures of my daily outfits, I have realized how accessories add a fun dimension to an outfit and how I am drawn to certain things (sweaters vs cardigans) more than others. So if I don’t wear cardigans much, I really do not need to invest in more for example, even if they look cute on other people. In this post, I am sharing how a sweater I bought specifically to wear on Christmas day can be worn on any day of the week as well as other holidays such as Valentine’s day.

Today, Ada (Elegance and Mommyhood) and I are sharing our red turtleneck sweaters. After years of not wearing turtlenecks, I bought two turtleneck sweaters this year: as long as they are loose around the neck, I actually like them. Don’t forget to stop by Ada’s blog post to see more of her and Vivian’s outfit.

I wore a similar outfis to this for Christmas but wore my fur lined booties from Target and wore a pair of white and red hoop earrings. On this day, I decided to have a lot of fun with my accessories, first choosing my spotted leopard wedge sneakers. The sneakers are sold out in this print but still available for less than $40.00 in tan and black. I was glad I did not buy them full price but was able to get them for less than $30 when they were only a few left in a couple of sizes.

The red sweater was a Target find that Mama Loves Shopping shared on her Instagram. Looks like it is sold out online but you should be able to find in store. It is still available in a pretty light blue online. I typically wear child size masks from Old Navy and I ordered a few packs that were on sale when I ordered my sons’ sherpa hoodies a couple of weeks ago. You cannot beat 4 dollars for a pack of 5 and I like that they do not go too high on my face.

This is such an easy way to print mix! All of the prints are far from each other and work with the main pieces of the outfit. The camo crossbody clutch picks up the tan from the booties and the spotted cork earrings from Nickel and Suede pick up the white and the black wrap bracelets as well as the spots in the shoes.

Here is a closer detail of my two wrap bracelets. I picked these up on major sale in December. Victoria Emerson is always running sales so I would wait for a good one to buy one. The quality is really good. I think I picked up the white one when it was on sale for $11 ($16 with shipping).

By the way, all of these pictures were taken around the Tennessee aquarium and I will be sharing a little from our outing later this week or next.

Just like me, Ada put different patterns together but in a bolder way with her pants, scarf and beanie! I love what she has done here and how the black and white of the pants and beanie tie them together. This is such a fun and cute outfit!

Blogger Feature

Today’s blogger feature is Claire from Claire’s World. Claire is a UK blogger that I have been following for about 2 years now.  I love how she shares a little bit of everything on her blogs: fashion, outings, cooking and running. In this particular post, Sparkly Tartan Skirt and Beautiful Butterfly Boots, she shares a fun holiday look with these boots that she found for an awesome deal of 3 pounds! I really need to look at different colored tights: these are really fun with the booties and skirt! Btw, this is Mollie her dog who is recovering from the removal of some cancerous tumors and is doing well!

Look how cute little Vivian is in her red sweater too! Styling like her mama! I love that Vivian is wearing some leopard too and that Ada’s skirt has a cool tweed texture. Ada has a great collection of pattern tights… I do not own a single pair! I love how they add texture to outfits and create such visual interest.

While red is often associated with Christmas and Valentine’s day, it can be worn at any time and just gives a spark to an outfit and gives it life! Ada’s two outfits show how versatile a red sweater can be!
