Blue Dress for a Civil War Fort Tour
I originally planned to take pictures of this outfit on the beach but as things usually go on a vacation, plans change and I decided this would be an outfit that would be comfortable even for a tour of a fort. You will learn more about our visit to Old Fort Jackson this Wednesday so today will focus on my outfit! I ordered this dress in two colors from Target after seeing a couple bloggers share it (Andrea from Living On Cloud Nine has it in this blue color and Carrie from A Simple Lovely Life shared it in the peach) and kept the blue as I felt the peach showed every lump and bump.
I had fun with the accessories I chose to pair with my dress. I decided on this glass pendant I hadn’t worn in years since I just ordered some ribbon cord straps to use with it and a few others I have. The Nickel and Suede earrings are a new pair, the June Earring of the month which is discounted for the whole month of June.
My Sanuk sandals worked however they were not the best shoes for the few places where there were cobblestones. I bought this pair years ago from Amazon in kid’s size. I added the smallest of my tile bracelets.
When we left the car, I decided to grab my kimono for extra coverage (it was a little windy) and to help deter mosquitoes. Sadly mosquitoes liked me despite the kimono and the bug repellent and I got bit multiple times.
My little Haiku crossbody purse is the one I brought to Europe a couple years ago: it is very handy on trips because of its small size and its multiple zipper pockets. I usually keep my phone in one of the outside pockets.
I can’t wait to wear this dres again: I might pair it with yellow next or orange! So many possible color combinations. What about prints: leopard, camo… Shoes and earrings and layers come to mind!
This little vacation was way too short but we really don’t typically do a full week vacation in the summer: it is too hot and humid around here and I have to decide where I want to allot our vacation money. This is getting making me antsy and ready for our beach trip at Thanksgiving!
A bientĂ´t!

I ordered that same dress in the same color… but I ended up returning it as I didn’t like how it fit me. It did feel like it would be a perfect summer dress though! Nice and lightweight, super cute with the ruffled arm detail too.

I think the dress would have been nicer in a thicker t shirt material but I will say the light weightness is nice of hot days. I do wear a slip under!
Ellie
What a beautiful shade of blue!! Love the fit on you and it’s the perfect lengths too! You definitely made the right choice in keeping the blue one!

Yes! It is kind of thin so I probably could have done a size medium but thankfully the darker color is more forgiving.
Jennifer
I love the colour of your dress!!

Thanks, Nancy! I am realizing which colors I have been drawn to this summer and both blue and the orange family have been on top of my list. I need to find a becoming green now!

How clever you are to do some style posts while touring these lovely historical locations. Good grief, woman, that blue is gorgeous on you. And I love it paired with the red print kimono. You know how I love a good kimono!!

Thanks, Leslie! I am currently all about the bright saturated colors! And this blue is a favorite.

Such a cute dress! The color is beautiful and love it paired with your red kimono. That’s a bummer that the mosquitoes weren’t nice to you but I can relate, they love me too. It sucks!

What a great dress! I love that it’s almost like a tank top dress, but has the cute, simple ruffles around the arms. The fort looks neat! I had to come back around to see which was it was – I’ve been to a few, and they look a bit similar, but it never gets old! Especially the view of the water, and the breeze.

I will have a post about the fort next Wednesday. It is really small but the guide made it so interesting.
Jill
That dress is such a pretty shade of blue on you! Love it styled with the kimono! Mosquitos are always attracted to me too!
