Stars and Stripes: July 2021 Sunday Showcase and Link Up
Ada (Elegance and Mommyhood) and I have now collaborated for the Sunday Showcase Link Up for a year now! So I was happy with this month’s theme as I am wearing patriotic outfits but very different ones from last year’s post! Of course, my closet was full of stripes so it was a manner of choosing which striped top of bottom to wear and I did order something new for the stars (it’s always a good excuse to shop!).
Stars
At first glance, you may not see the stripes in this outfit especially that none of my outfit pictures are close up so scroll down to see where they appear.
I cannot believe how many times I have reached for this Target dress that I bought this past may. On its own, with tee or another layer, I have really enjoyed it. So much so that it will be the subject of a how to wear a white sundress 6 ways post later this month. Here is a similar one as it is now out of stock.
The tee is very comfortable and available in grey or cream. I hesitated between both but settled on grey. While it is knotted over the dress, I do like the length on it which will be nice with fitted bottoms. I haven’t worn white sneakers with this dress yet so I pulled them out for this outfit and the epitome of summer is a straw tote so pull this one out!
And here are my subtle red and white striped earrings I found at a local boutique around Christmas! It’s a fitting 4th of July outfit without being too much in your face. Funny thing is that I will probably wear my homemade tie dye red, white and blue tee for the 4th if it comes out nice.
Stripes for the win
I first thought of wearing a red striped tee with my new bermuda shorts but then I came accross this comfortable little skirt hanging in my closet. For some reason, I am all about dresses this summer but haven’t worn any of my skirts much.
Paired it with a sweet little embroidered top I found at TJMaxx last month. The top will be really cute with denim too even white denim. My sandals are quite old and from Target if I remember correctly. My son and I had a time trying to take pictures on this particular morning: the sun was really bright even at 9 am and some shaded spots were really dark.
Do you tuck your blouse in? Even though it cuts my body in half, that is the way I prefered in this particular case. I often stand in front of the mirror and try different tucks or knots to see how I prefer to wear a top.
Do you know how difficult it is to take of picture in the air without looking like a crazed lunatic? We had fun trying to figure the burst shot out since it was my 10 year old taking my pictures and he is not as familiar with my phone. We had fun!
I am not sure what our plans for the day are apart from cooking out. We will see!

I chose Penny from Frugal Fashion Shopper as I always enjoy getting a peek into her life in the UK and the fun thrifted pieces she has found. She shared about her visit to her daughter and some pretty street and building pictures. We both share a love for yellow and mustard yellow too.

Mireille, these are super cute outfits! I really like the star tee shirt. And I HAVE to try this tee shirt over the dress trick. It is so adorable! I love the jumping photo! Haha. I have tried that a few times and it really is difficult to capture a shot where you don’t look like a crazed lunatic! My face is always contorted in the strangest ways when I have tried jumping photos. Lol Fun post!

Both outfits look fabulous on you! My favorite is the second one with the striped mini skirt. What a perfect lengths on you! And I love the blouse you’ve paired it with.
Oh, and what a perfect photo your son took of you jumping in the air. So fun!! I definitely always look like a lunatic when I jump. LOL.

I really have to concentrate on my face when taking such pictures because my eyes can look really crazy!

Mireille, both are fabulous looks with subtle nods to the theme. Styling a t-shirt over a dress certainly maximizes the versatility of the dress and the balance of details between the stripes and the embroidered tops is perfect. You have a great eye for creating outfits that are effortlessly chic.

Thanks, Kathrine! That dress has been great. I actually thrifted a little white skirt like it yesterday so I can create similar looks without layering.

Mireille,
I have a photo just like this with my niece from a couple of summers ago, she had a blue romper with stars I had a red striped sun dress. We were a festive pair. I love the tiered skirt with tennies, a nice look I go to often. Is that a gingham?
I hope you had a great fourth!
Happy hopping,
Ruth-Anne

It was good. I like more laid back weekends so holiday weekends are not typically my favorites but our neighbors put a pretty awesome display of fireworks.
