Arizona Travel Outfits

I will be sharing some beautiful pictures from the scenery we came across in Scottsdale, AZ in my Wednesdays posts (I love cacti!) but for today, I wanted to share my daily outfits from our short weekend trip to Arizona. We went to Scottsdale to attend my brother’s wedding and to spend time with him and my new sister in law. I tried to pack ligthly but I did learn a few things from this trip as it was the first time we were visiting such a hot place.

I typically wear joggers with a tee and sneakers when traveling but wanted to limit the number of shoes I brought to 3 so I opted to wear my Sanuk sandals on the plane because they were my easiest pair of sandals to take on and off and I was planning to wear them to go to the pool. I then opted for my white capri leggings and a longer hooded top. This was comfortable but I think I still like wearing joggers better. I really like this little crossbody clutch for traveling, it fits the essentials: cards, chapstick, hand sanitizer and phone.

Day 2 consisted of a walk, lunch at my brother’s and a visit to the aquarium. With temperature of 110 on average but it being dry heat, this outfit worked out fine. I added a hat in the afternoon. I think that whatever you wear, you are very likely to sweat a lot unless you stay indoors all day so choosing something made of a material that dries quickly is probably the best. The condo we rented had a washer and drier and I used it twice: to rewear a couple things and to come home with a minimum of laundry.

We had dinner at a restaurant called The Vig. My uncle and aunt which I hadn’t seen in about 17 years joined us as well as the witnessess for my brother and wife. I dressed up a little with cute flats and wore my new bodysuit (last purchase before my no spend 2 months). I tried to get a white one too but it sure was not flattering nor becoming so I returned it but this black one (in medium) was perfect. I like the square neck and know that I will wear it many times. And as you can see it is not as low cut as the model’s picture makes it to look.

We hadn’t planned on a hike in the desert but the the McDowell Sonoran Preserve Gateway Trail was nearby and we took a 1.7 mile hike. It was a little late in the morning (10 AM) for a walk and 91 degrees felt much hotter than 91 degrees with the sun beating on our head and no shade. With no sneakers with me, this was my only shoe option and it actually worked out fine. Thankfully I did not get sunburned feet. Glad I had a hat with a nice brim. This dolman short was also good to protect my shoulders. I ended up carrying my 3 year old on my back for half the trail before passing him on to his daddy to carry. Glad we had water with us!

The wedding was a civil wedding with a justice of peace at a nice restaurant (we had our own room large enough for about 25 people so I wanted to wear something pretty and dressy but not too dressy. This tunic/dress and leggings worked out well and I felt neither underdressed nor overdressed. It was also great for bending down and entertaining my little niece.

Last but not least, I got to meet Jodie from Jtouchofstyle who was flying in from Seattle just a little bit before our flight back to Atlanta. We were able to meet her and her husband Rob as they exited their gate before returning to our terminal and going through security. We would not have been able to do that in Atlanta as the terminals are eternally long and so busy. Jodie is as wonderful in person as on her blog and instagram and is a genuinely sweet person full of energy! I loved meeting her and hope we get to meet up again for a real visit at some point in the future. We did enjoy Arizona so we may plan a visit in the future to explore more of that beautiful state! I wore another non typical for me outfit for the plane but this is what I wore that morning sitting by the pool. I did wish I had had an extra outfit packed or at least a scarf. I got cold on the airplane. For having traveled as much as I have, I learn something every time we travel. Btw, Jodie is holding my 3 year old who after a weekend with new people was very friendly, hugged her and let her hold him.

There you have it, my OOTD for our weekend trip to Arizona!

A bientôt!

I have a much harder time packing for a short trip than I do with a long trip; both our weekend trips have found my wardrobe severly lacking and wishing I had packed a bit differently. I have hiked in sandals a time or two when I have forgotten to pack what my family calls “real shoes;” as long as we wren’t mountain climbing they usually work just fine. I love your outifts and how fun to get to meet up with Jodi in person, even if it was only for a few minutes.

So do I, I can pack perfect for a couple of weeks but give me a weekend especially with weather different than mine and I don’t do as well.

I do think we learn every time we travel about what makes for good travel outfits. Of course maybe that’s because we go different places too!!
I’m so glad you liked it out here. We just love it and think it’s amazing!!
Thank you again for taking the time to meet us. Of all the weekends for us to be gone….
        Xoxo

First thing I thought when I read a few first sentences of this post was, you could have met Jodie!! Lol. I’m glad you had a great time but caring your youngest must have been very heavy!

Ha ha! We really worked hard at seeing if we could meet up so I was so glad it happened despite her being out of town that weekend. Thankfully the 3 year odl usually always walk. The only time he wanted to be carried was that walk in the desert and it was hot enought that I figured it was a good idea.

Hope you are having a nice weekend 🙂 Going to be a busy one for us with two kids birthday parties!

Thanks, Ellie! One thing I learned was that it was good to have 2 outfits per day as you sweat a lot there.

OMG, Mireille, I was loving this post all the way through and then you saved the icing for last! How fun that you were able to meet with Jodie in the airport of all places! She is such a wonderful human, isn’t she? Although I never met her in person, I did video chat with Jodie last year and it was so much fun! She has abundant energy, for sure. I love all of your outfits for your trip but Arizona in the summer is definitely not a place I would want to visit, I am much more acclimated to the cold northeastern weather!

I love Jodie! I do hope that there will be another time where we can visit. We enjoyed Arizona so much we do hope to visit it again at some point.

That’s so exciting you got to meet Jodie, even if for only a few minutes. You need to get back to Arizona and visit in the middle of winter. That’s when most people travel there, and it is gorgeous!

Lovely outfits. Oh wow, how amazing to meet Jodie 🙂

Thanks so much for linking up to Creative Mondays. I hope you can join us again tomorrow 🙂 #CreativeMondays

What a brilliant post, Mireille! And what a fabulous trip you had. We briefly visited Arizona back in 2008 whilst staying in Vegas but it was at Christmas so the temperatures were quite different then lol. I don’t think I would enjoy the heat now! You must’ve been boiling.
I love all your outfits. It looks as though you packed really well. And how fantastic that you got to attend a wedding. And then finally to meet Jodie!! I’m super envious of you both. I wish I could meet some of you fabulous bloggers, but it’s a bit difficult being all the way across the Atlantic!!
    Big hugs
    Suzy xx

My brother’s wedding was a small affair but it was really nice! We really enjoyed it. And meeting Jodie was the icing the cake.
