Inspired by Nancy’s Fashion Style: All Black Outfit

I do not wear monochromatic outfits enough and I often forget about neutrals in the summer. So after seeing this outfit of Nancy from Nancy’s Fashion Style, I decided it was time to write an Inspired by post. Nancy has a great fashion style and wears quite a few dresses and skirts. I wore this most of a day, for errands and doing things around the house. By afternoon, I did change as I knew I wanted to clean my very disgusting car and I would workout soon after.

While Nancy accessorized with pink, I accessorized with yellow as I wanted to chose a pair of sandals similar in style as hers. I also added yellow earrings and I wore my multicolored tile bracelets from Amazon which I have shared many times.

My 7 year old took my pictures on this day since my 10 year old had already taken some blog pictures for me earlier that morning. I try to spread out the photography “work” so they all don’t mind it and sometimes pay them or do something for them as a reward.

For some reason this year, I haven’t really enjoyed wearing my shorter shorts so I have reached for this pair a lot. Who knows where I got them and how long I have had these? The same can be said for the peasant blouse. All I know is that I have had both for at least 4 to 5 years and the top was from Old Navy.

I am thoroughly enjoying the views from our backyard: if I look in one direction, I see only the woods and not the neighbors’ house. I haven’t been out as much though because little bugs that bite are not fun. Yes, I am starting to look forward to fall!

I was actually hoping that the weather would stay stormy all day but no… it became sunny and muggy. The skies made for some nicer pictures as it wasn’t as bright as usual. That also means less squinting on my part.

I feel like 2021 has been a year of spending: furniture, clothes, appliances… and I will need a new car by the end of the year. Yes, I have stayed in budget and saved but I really could be saving more! I am thinking about which habits I need to change and making goals that are attainable. I think I will make August a budget month: sharing outfits completely shopped from my closet, some menus and recipes and maybe share some of my July and August efforts. I tend to talk a lot about needing to have no shopping months but have really fallen off the wagon this year most of the time I have mentioned it. Since Nancy mentioned not shopping for clothes till August 31st, I decided to join her and started a day or so after her on June 30. After a little fail on July 5 spending $22 at a consignment store (for 4 items), I have been sticking to it! I will tell you if I was completely successful on that last day of August!

A bientôt!

Love the outfit and the inspiration! Nancy’s blog is so fun to read and she does have great style. I am finding this has been a real spend year for us too and I know we need to replace my car soon too but I keep putting it off…

Seems like there not many cars out there to buy right now and prices are high so it is really helping me not get one right now!

  • Nancy

Oh Mireille, I already failed my mission…… but I will not buy from now on…….. Thank you so much for featuring me! It is such a honor. I think that almost every colour looks good on you and black isn’t the exception!! Love the way you pose like mine! Great sleeves btw!

Thank you, Nancy! I love your style and this one was an easy one to recreate. I follow Paula from Dimples on my What and she is doing it to this summer. She has been posting some suggestions on stories that have helped me have some self control.

I love that you’ve emulated Nancy, right down to her pose, Mireille! Well done!

I have been feeling like my style is due for a change, so I’ve been shopping a bit, but it’s all second-hand, so it’s better (?? I tell myself it is, lol!).

That what I am telling myself about the fall: if I thrift and check out the consigment stores, I can get more for a lot less: I think I will give myself a cash budget then for the last 4 months of the year (especially that I have 2 new consignment stores to explore!)

Thanks, Kathrine. Budgeting and having some spending freeze are part of my life: sometimes I need to slow down and readjust my spending habits.

As long as I can keep it up: talking about it makes me accountable! And dreaming of some bigger vacations in the future is a nice goal!

It isn’t easy but I am making a list and I know September brings birthday money and I will have some CC points to turn into a gift card!

Wow! You both look fabulous in total black! I like how you added a little bit of yellow which elevated the whole outfit! Great job, Mireille!

You both look rgeat in your moncorhome outfits and it’s nice to see how you went with yellow for your pop of colour too! 🙂

Good luck with your no shop! I achieved No Buy July again last month that I’m happy with, and that means I’ve completed the first month of the slow fashion season #fashiondetox! Excited to see if I can complete another 2 months without any fashion purchases, although I know I can go second hand for the slow fashion season challenge this month and next if I get the urge to shop, haha!

    Thanks for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup!

Hope you have a nice weekend ahead of you 🙂 Busy one here, I’m volunteering at a fundraising booth this morning 🙂

We are taking it easy this weekend: the boys are tired from their week at tennis camp and the pool. Some errands and church! I do want to see if I can stick to mostly second hand shopping in the fall.

Great looks on you both. I never thought of wearing my yellow sandals with a black outfit, your outfit looks great. Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

What a great monochromatic black outfit, Mireille. As much as I love adding bright colors to my outfits, there is always something special to me about an all black outfit! This reminds me of the all black outfit of yours that I copied a few years back but changed out the color of my sandals in a similar style to yours. I applaud you on your no-shopping months! I can’t do it! I giggled that you sometimes pay your kids to take your photos. I have to do the same! We include “Mom’s photos” in their list of chores that they get paid for!

I need to do this more often. I have other tops and bottoms I can do this with. And yes, I remember the outfit you copied with the black skirt and graphic tee.

Great look. When done right, monochromatic outfits are chic even though they’re fairly effortless to put together. Nancy’s style is full of fabulousness and you did well in selecting her as your inspiration. And your young man did a very fine job with these photos. Kudos to him.

Thanks, Rena! I was impressed with him as it is harder for him to take pictures than my older boys.

  • Grace

I’ve found that cloudy days always work best for my photos, too! I, like you, forget to wear monochrome outfits, but it’s always a chic look. I love those yellow sandals and that your boys take your photos! How sweet of them to help!

I love this, Mireille! You look fabulous in all black, just like Nancy does too. I’m also in love with your garden. It looks like the perfect place to chill out, and what fabulous views of the woods!

The backyard is really nice especially the seasons without the bugs lol! I love having coffee out there and when it cools off, I take a blanket and really enjoy it!
