Planning an at Home Fall Break

We do not have any trips plans until our beach trip for Thanksgiving but the boys have 4 days for a short fall break. I decided to keep the budget low but still have fun: we will make use of those yearly memberships we bought this summer! My brother and family will be spending 2 of the days with us before leaving for their new home. So some of the activities will include them.

  • Friday: Zoo trip with my brother and family. I will bring a picnic so the cost will be only the gas to get there since I have a membership. The 3 older boys will be at school so only my littlest will accompany us.
  • Saturday: Winery visit: once again we will bring a picnic. The winery has some nice views and spot to eat. We will take my parents too and the cost will be gas and maybe a wine glass or two.
  • Sunday: church and dinner outside. I hope we can build a fire in our firepit and roast some marshmallows again: we finally did last week and played a game around the fire too that had us laughing and laughing.
  • Monday: my husband has not been to the Georgia Aquarium in years so he will join us on this visit. Since we have the membership, this time, we will eat somewhere nearby for something fun and different.
  • Tuesday: free day: I am going to let the kids do what they want to but just make sure they do spend some of the day outside. They will probably play on their devices and with their toys too. I will see if any of them want to join me to go to the local Western museum.

This being the third visit to the aquarium and the 2nd to the zoo makes me happy that we got those memberships. I am sure we will go a few more times over the next months which really justifies the initial cost. Having bought the memberships at the end of summer, we have many opportunities ahead of us for visits.

Packing a lunch is an inexpensive way to eat while out and about. Granted, lately I have spent way more on food than usual. Having company over has me planning nicer meals and I need to make a goal to see if I can lower our grocery bill the month of October.

I plan to do that by:

  • Meal planning more budget friendly meals (dairy seems to be the culprit many times for spending more)
  • making more of our snacks
  • shopping the sales (I usually do that but need to do an even better job)
  • I don’t tend to use rice and pasta much but it does stretch out meats/protein for meals.
