Enjoy the Now
Often times after a couple of months into a season, we start looking forward to the next one and forget to enjoy the now and the present season (this can be meant literally and figuratively). It’s winter and we want it to be spring with flowers and warmer temperatures, it’s spring and we want it to be summer and bathing suit season… The same as a parent or sometimes in a job: when my children are potty trained, when they go to school, when they… One of my goals this year is to enjoy the now and really live in the now as much as possible. Of course, I look forward to planning vacations and the coming seasons in life and in weather but I want to take time to savor the days as they pass. How am I doing that? Mostly little things!
- coffee time in the morning: it is usually really a treat since I like my hazelnut coffee with hazelnut creamer and sugar
- quiet time in the evening with a candle or diffuser, a book and my lit little tree in the corner of my room
- runs with friends and afternoon walks
- on warm days I try to get out there and play with the boys: right now with our Bocce ball set we found on clearance
- evening poker and blackjack games with the 2 oldest
- sitting on the porch with a book
- looking at the variety of birds on the birdfeeders
- getting together with friends at least twice a month
- date night with the hubby.
Some of these things I do have to plan like the last two, but most are everyday things. I’ve been enjoying the sunrises and sunsets as I come and go many days a week. I went to the aquarium with my friend and her daughter last week and plan to meet a new friend next week. I am putting a date on the calendar for me and the hubby and I have an overnight trip to Nashville with the boys in a couple of weeks. I can enjoy the cold mornings which give me an opportunity to wear all of my sweaters, scarves and occasional jackets and I can enjoy the sunny days and warmer afternoons when they pop up during the week.
I will leave you with these two fashionable river rays we saw at the aquarium last week.

Love that adorable otter! I try so hard to enjoy the now and not wish it away (something I struggle with the most during winter!). I do love this season of parenting though and kind of wish it would last just a little longer… where they’re still here and want to be around us but don’t really seem to NEED us much anymore. They seek out and listen to our advice but I see them making good choices for them.

That’s wonderful! With my boys all being apart 3 years or so, I am trying to get better at parenting!

Excellent, excellent post, Mireille. It’s so important to live in the now. I’ve always known this logically, but the pandemic brought it home to me in a powerful way. I don’t want to forget this lesson.

I needed to remind myself of it!

I too am guilty of this… I do enjoy making myself a little something fun to drink every morning. And, quiet time with a book is the best. My long runs outside I really cherish, but it has been too cold to do that and I miss it so much!

Oh my gosh, I love otters. I can watch them play for hours, and listen to those funny sounds they make. I try to enjoy every moment too because the time goes by so fast. Have a great weekend!

This otter was adorable! Enjoy the rest of your weekend too.

We’ve had rain, ice and snow in the past 24 hours here so it was a good day to be reminded of this!

Yes! Glad the post is resonating with everyone.

It’s so good that you concentrate on this Mireille, because in all reality, life is so short (as I talk about in my email that comes out tomorrow).
I used to do it all the time, but have gotten better at being okay with how things are now. Well, sometimes, haha

I’m reading a book that talks about living a more mildful life each day. Small things can be so joyous, we just have to take the time to slow down and see it!

What a wonderful post, Mireille. It is so important to stop and be in the moment. I tell myself that all the time, and sometimes, I actually follow my own advice. Making a list is a fabulous way to make it more intentional!

The list does help me. Planning to enjoy the sunshine today!

My husband and I love otters. We love to watch them play. Such good tips. Did you ever read the children’s story of the boy who wished his life away? He would pull on a magic ball of yarn every time he wanted to leave his current life stage and enter another. Before he knew it, his life was over and he missed everything. It’s the saddest book ever! But I think of that book often when I have similar feelings of wishing a certain period of my life was over.

I have never read the book but it is a good reminder.

The rays are so cute! 🙂 I agree, it’s the simple little things in life that make it worthwhile 🙂 I find with kids you’re always helped to be in the moment and just enjoy the now – time with my kids is the best, they are so funny and smart! 🙂
Hope that you are having a lovely weekend! We had a playdate yesterday and today is the last day of the summer school holidays 🙂
