Polka Dots for Summer with the Sunday Showcase Link Up
After taking about a week break from the blog to spend time with family on our vacation, I am back! I have so much to write about our week in New Orleans from sharing some outfits to some of the fun adventures we had. So be prepared: June is going to be all about New Orleans! But today, Ada and I are sharing some polka dots for summer! I actually do not have many items with polka dots in my closet, I think I only have 2 possibly 3. I bought this dress 3 years ago when I was influenced by Lisa from Coast to Coast who shared the dress in this post. I have worn it mostly with white leggings as well as with jeans as a tunic but today I decided to share it as a dress.
I love it when I buy something that looks new several years later and that I still wear. I do not wear this often as a dress as the length is a bit shorter to move around but I love the high low hem which makes it more modest in the back. I still can’t figure out whether it is dark navy or black but either way, it is a fun classy print.
I call this my tea party or Kentucky Derby look with the large sun hat and clog heels. Both are more recent purchases, the sandals from Target (here) and the hat from Amazon (here). After spending a week walking around New Orleans, I realized I wanted an extra hat for some variety and this one will be wonderful at the pool with its wide brim.
The husband and I had planned to go on a date on our vacation but we had too many leftovers to eat before our ride back so we didn’t do as planned but this dress would be a cute one to wear on such an occasion. I guess we will just have to plan something later this month: trying to remember our last date: it must have been a couple months ago: it’s been really busy these past months.
I think I may just switch back to this purse for a little while this summer! I may use a different strap so it will be more casual for daily wear since the chain makes clanking noises and is a little flashy. The bag is spacious enough for the essentials and I can carry it as a crossbody.
As I wrote this post, I realized I am standing/posing in the same direction in all of these pictures: I will be paying more attention next time except that all of my pictures for this month are taken I think! Thankfully since they are pictures in pretty fun new locations, they are fun and varied. It helps to have different spots to take pictures. I have taken pictures for about 5 blog posts or so here. I definitely like this area the best in the spring when the trees are full of pink blooms. I am thankful though that I have at least 5 picturesque places to take picture within 5 minutes from the house. Downtown takes about 10 minutes so we don’t take pictures there as often since I depend on the goodwill of the boys!
Summer time is here and I am looking forward to some lazy mornings in between taking the kiddos to their respective camps. I am looking forward to some fun breakfasts with the boys and solo, croissants, french toast and other things we don’t typically eat during the weekdays during the school year. I am sure they will eventually beg for some crepes! I do not plan to got to the pool everyday but at least several times a week and I will be trying to teach my youngest to swim. He is finally getting comfortable in the water.
Don’t forget to stop by Ada’s blog (Elegance and Mommyhood) to see details about her outfit. This is one cute little polka dot dress and I love all of the neutral tones of her outfit. You’ll probably get a peek or two of her cute little baby daughter!
Feature Blogger
I couldn’t help myself and had to choose Carol from Scribbling Bloomer as my featured blogger as I love to travel and she shared her post Carry-on Essentials for an International Flight. I have a very similar weekender bag that I use on shorter trips and I enjoyed reading what she thought was important to pack in her carry on. We haven’t traveled abroad in 3 years but many tips apply to shorter flights and trips too.

It’s funny because I didn’t have many polka dots for the longest time. Now I have more, but I still try to keep an eye out for it at the thrift store. I love this as a dress. Heck, you could even layer it over a skirt too!!

That is such a cute dress on you, and I really like that bag with it! it’s the perfect dress for summer. A lot of the dresses I love have high-low hems too it’s nice having that bit of extra length in the back! I don’t have any polka dot dresses though, but I do have a polka dot scarf I love!
Hope you had a good weekend. We had a fun but busy one 🙂 thank you for your link up!

That little bag has been a lot of fun! I ended up finding a mustard strap that worked out with it.

The dress looks navy to me, but wether it’s black or navy it’s gorgeous and it’s such a great fit on you! And love the sandals! I can’t wait to read all about your New Orleans trip, I have never been!

Mireille, I think you look so very fresh and pretty in this dress. Those sandals are pretty cool, too! I had some like that in the 70s, and they creaked when I walked though I think mine were quite a bit higher! I can’t wait to read about your trip to New Orleans! Thanks for the link up!

Mireille, this dress is so pretty and it looks fantastci on you! I know the length is uncomfortable for you but I have to say, you have gorgoeus legs, my friend! And those amazing sandals really look fabulous, too. I love your new straw hat, too. I just picked up a new wide brimmed hat, too. They are perfect for all the summer outdoor activities. Have a great week!

I don’t have a lot of polka dots in my closet either. Just a top I believe! But it’s such a fun print and I love this dress you featured. It’s timeless and works for so many occasions as you have also described. Btw, I adore your bag. Very cute! I am also trying to try out new poses but as always I get so self conscious that I forget to just do. Oh well..it’s the thought that counts right?!

You look so cute in polka dots! And not in a little kid-kinda way, which is how I FEEL in polka dots. I love them on other people, though- maybe I should give ’em another try? Both you and Ada are rockin’ ’em! 🙂

Boy, do you look adorable in polka dots. Check out your faburlous legs!! I think those chunky heels can really show off our legs. Very trendy and very cute. The hat does give it a KY Derby feel.
New Orleans was a favorite vacation spot for us for a few years. Haven’t been since Katrina. Would like to go again someday.

Thank you! I wish the running worked on the thighs and not just my calf but maybe that’s the ice cream lol!
