Skirt as a Dress: Make Your Clothes Work for You

I have worn a skirt as a top before, in this post and really liked the look. Today, I am sharing a skirt as a dress! I think this works best with a maxi skirt and I like to add a belt to give the skirt some shape. I have several skirts that would work well for this exercise but I settled on this thrifted orange maxi and was happy to be able to take the pictures at the lake!

Our first day at the lake was partly rained out, in a big way. Thankfully we were able to take a ride on our uncle’s pontoon and the boys were able to have fun in the lake in the morning because once 1 o’clock appeared, the rain came in steady torrents accompanied by thunder and lighting. We spend the rest of that day indoors. I took advantage to catch up on some reading and relax.

I really wanted to add a statement necklace with this as I did with the skirt as a top but I could settle on one that looked good with this. I am thinking gold or white would have been really cool. My husband liked this outfit and called me “Bahama Mama”. I wore a pair of orange and pink ball earrings.

The heels are a pair of Chinese Laundry sandals handed down from my mom. I do not wear them often as they hurt one toe but since I do not have many heels and these are a great neutral, I keep them in my closet.

I am thinking the maxi skirt I shared earlier this month would be also great as a dress and I may take a picture to add at the end of this post. I am sure you can find one or two maxi in your closet to try this. Different belts would give different looks: I could have done a woven belt with this skirt.

I love boat rides: the scenery, the wind in your hair, the breeze on a hot day… The second day at the lake turned out gorgeous so we were able go for a second ride and the boys got to use the swing rope and jump in the lake again.

Here are some stills from a video I took for Instagram. Pretty short 3 second video since the dock here was short!

It had been 2 years since we had visited and it was fun how the boys enjoyed the visit. We even got to ride the side by side ATV in the woods and my 11 year old went on a ride with some of his siblings, dad and great uncle in the dark: the 4 year old and him were a little frightened! I went during the day and it was fun! Do stop by Ada’s blog! She is catching up on her skirt posts and will be posting the rest of them this week! She has some adorable outfits to share and I absolutely love this one you saw in the above collage. That skirt’s print is so pretty and I love that little green clutch. Very summery and tropical!

A bientĂ´t!
