Transitioning Shorts for Fall with the Sunday Showcase

One of my favorite and one of the easiest way to transition an outfit for fall is to add a denim jacket. I love my denim jackets and I have several washes and colors. I alternate between them depending on my mood and the day. You will see how they and different pairs of shoes change up one dress later one this month. For today, though, I am sharing a summer outfit and how I made it more fall appropriate.

This is an outfit I wore at the beginning of August after I found the shorts on the clearance rack at TJMaxx. I love the length and the price ($10) and know I will wear them for years to come.

There’s nothing like taking fall pictures when it is 90 degrees outside! I was sweating by the end of our 10 minutes picture session! While low and split shaft booties are not supposed to be on trend anymore, these tan booties are still one of my favorite pair to wear when I wear skirts and dresses and shorts. They probably do need to be thrown out as their cushioning is mostly gone and they are showing some wear.

I chose a lighter denim jacket to keep it summery and wore my favorite hat from Target: it fits my head the best and is very versatile. I often transition to this tote at the beginning of school so I can add books, notebook and water for school pick up duty.

The tote is reversible and I flip it inside out depending on my mood. I usually use a tote organizer so my things are not a mess in it. I am looking forward to cooler days: morning are going to start feeling a little cooler and more comfortable but I would say we probably will have fairly warm afternoon for another month or two!

I was ready for a haircut in these pictures! Since it takes me an hour to get to my friend’s house I don’t get haircuts as regularly as if she lived closer. It’s been interesting getting used to having a lot of free time being home without children. I am enjoying it! It’s nice to be able to visit with friends, run errands or exercise without constantly looking at my watch.

Surprisingly though, I feel like I have been busier than ever. Between setting up appointments, calling different places to get things fixed (nothing like getting charge for a month of tennis when you did not plan to renew), cleaning things that haven’t been in a while… It is usually about 1 or 2 o’clock before I sit with a book and get to relax 30 minutes before the kids come home.

I am sure it will settle some soon. I guess I am catching up on the things I haven’t taken time to do while all the boys were at home this summer. Looking forward to some fun planned this month though!
