How to Change the Look of a Tie Dress

I definitely did not stick to my no shop summer this summer, but I was very intentional with the choices I made when I did purchase some clothes. I do not remember why I was in Target on this particular day (I did not enter Target for 40 days or so though), but glanced at the clearance rack. When I noticed the pretty neutral print of this dress, I knew I wanted to try it on. While in the fitting room, I quickly realized that I would be able to create a different waistline depending on how I tied the belt it came with (it actually can be taken off completely) or by adding one of my belts. So this $11 dress will see a lot of wear this fall, winter and spring!

The length and cut is perfect for church and I am in love with the black and white print. I love how the cognac sandals and purse contrast with it. I already plan to wear it with my cowboy boots when it cools off and all of my riding boots!

In this picture I pulled the tie to the back and knotted it in the back. Without the tie at all, the dress would be shapeless on me. Do you notice my raffia earrings? These inexpensive earrings were part of a set and are the perfect summer accessory.

A great place to find accessories is to hunt the thrift stores for them. My little suede purse was $3 and my belt the same if I remember correctly. Bought in 2 different cities in the last year or so and they match quite well.

I forgot to mention this dress has pockets: always a plus in my book even if I usually do not put anything in my dress pockets. But it’s a great place for your hands when you take pictures.

The material is actually a nice weight (if sligthly heavier than what I would usually wear in summer), but I did wear a slip so it would not be see through in the sunlight. You can bet I will be sharing it couple of months with my moto jackets and boots.

I love the month of September! It’s a big celebration month in our family and it leads up to fall break! School still feels new and we are halfway into sports activities which means free Saturdays are somewhat on the horizon. I love my children being involved in activities but I love having free weekends for family activities too.

Here is how I wore it to church a few weeks ago with my flat blingy sandals and another pair of raffia earrings with a woven belt.
