Goal Setting: Summer 2025

There are 2 more months in summer and as we near the end of summer break (only 3 more weeks left), I am now ready for some goal setting! June was a stressful month with my mom’s health and creating new routines there and my oldest looking for living arrangements for the fall semester at GA tech. Now that those routines are established and he has an apartment to move into in August, I can look forward to these coming two months. As I mentioned in last week’s post, June was a month full of anxiety, but July was a nice turning points with new routines.

Family Goals

  • visit my parents twice a week, help with chores and errands.
  • spend time with the boys doing some fun things: pool time a couple times a week
  • once it’s August 6, create some good school routines
  • continue to have some game time: take advantage of oldest being home: card games and Mario Kart are on repeat as a family
  • Get back to monthly dates!

July: day date down the river

Health Goals

I learned a few things while visiting Jodie (more on that visit later) and here are my take aways:

  • increase my protein intake
  • pair fruit with protein
  • add more fresh uncooked veggies to my diet as a snack
  • walk early each day even if only a 20 min walk
  • take magnesium at night and see if it improves my going back to sleep
  • super greens with breakfast

Vacations

  • choose which place we are staying at for Thanksgiving at the beach
  • book a 3-4 day anniversary trip

Finances

I really need to work on that one!

  • work on reducing my food budget: it had increased 50% in June! I know that is partly due to having an 18 year old eating at home, but I haven’t really worked on doing better.
  • save for vacations 2025 and 2026 (I am planning for us to go to Spain next summer)
  • after my shopping spree in Arizona (which was in the budget), be very conscious of what I am buying the rest of the summer.

And there you have it! My goals for the coming months!

A bientôt!

It does go by fast, but mine are getting bored! My oldest is looking forward to seeing all his college friends!

I’m so sorry that June was a month of anxiety for you, but I’m glad things are looking up for you now! I love that you’re getting out and walking every day even if it’s for a short time. That’s always a tough goal to hit when it’s so hot, so it’s admirable that you’re doing it!

I started walking with my youngest, just a little over a mile in the morning and then will add an evening one too. So at least a little bit until it cools off!

Those are some fabulous goals! I’m glad July was better for you than June and it’s amazing to me that school will be starting up again so soon. Alec doesn’t go back until the end of August but we still need to buy lots of things for his apartment– including new bedding as the dorm apartments have full size and not the twin XL like the regular dorms. I’m hoping by the time we head out he’ll have finally touched based with the 2 other roommates he doesn’t know– they haven’t repsonded to any texts/messages either Alec or his friend have sent.

My son just got the name for his roommate. Now we are making sure that it is not on one of the floors that is more expensive. I pretty much have everything for me now!

I love that you’re walking with your youngest…better than getting a dog, LOL.
And I bet you’ll see such an improvement with your pre diabetes by changing up some of those eating habits. Learning how to control the glucose spikes is key. If you want to read the book that solidified it for me, I got it from the library. It’s called The Glucose Revolution. She’s also on IG as Glucose Goddess.

It seems we all have down months. I’m glad July is better than June for you. Your goals are all really good and look attainable. I’ve been doing some damage to my budget, but travel isn’t an option for a bit now. I’m hoping next year is better in that regard.

Some years have more opportunities for travel than not depending on work, health, etc… Hope it will happen for you.

I’m glad July will be a bit of a calmer month for you! I can’t believe school is going to start again soon. These are great goals. I realized this week that I think I have an iron deficiency so I have also been thinking more about my diet and healthier options!

    Miles of smiles,
    Grace

I just needed a kick in the pants to get on track and some inspiration, so I am very thankful to Jodie. I don’t aim to be perfect, but I truly needed to make some changes.
