Modern Scarf Outfits
After sharing some scarf around the waist outfits last month (here), I was inspired to take advantage of the fall weather to wear more of my scarves. Fall and spring seem to be the seasons when I reach the most of these lightweight scarves, and this year I have been drawn to square scarves and all of the ways they can be styled. Most of my inspiration has been from Instagram and I saved a few videos as some ideas are a little more complicated than others. Most of my scarves were thrifted for as little as 50c to a few dollars. When a necklace might fail me, a scarf might be just the little oomph my outfit needs.
Scarf as a faux belt

I knotted my scarf around a belt loop and tied it in a bow. I really love this trick and will need to try it again soon. It is a fun way to add color to an outfit and I really like that I do not have to untie the scarf to use the bathroom.
Scarf as a necklace

I had to watch a video to see how to combine my scarf with my necklace. A smaller scarf is best for this trick and I really love how I was able to carry the color scheme through my outfit. Skirt, white button down and scarf were all thrifted and I wore this thrifting (it was a very successful thrifting expedition!). A lady made my day by lowering her window and yelling out how amazing my outfit was as I was walking downtown to the thrift store. It reminded me how important it is to take a moment to compliment others.
Scarf as a choker

I saw someone wear a scarf like this on Instagram (the back is just knotted in a double knot) and really liked how it brought color to her outfit. I was able to do this with one of my larger square scarves and it really brought my fall outfit together.
Scarf as a neckerchief

I wore this scarf as a neckerchief, leaving the triangle in front to fill in the neckline and chose a color scheme to bookend my sneakers. This was another favorite outfit of mine this fall. All but the shoes were thrifted (top and purse were both only $1).
Scarf instead of a necklace

I started the day with an olive and tan necklace but I didn’t really like the blush against my face that day and the necklace just seemed awkward. I decided to see which of my scarves would look better and pull this old one from Target (I think I found it in the dollar spot about 8-10 years ago), and really liked how it improved my outfit.
Scarf with a sweatshirt

I wanted to wear this new-to-me little purple scarf (it has a print with dogs) and was also trying to wear this pair of plaid pants as I don’t think I wore them but a couple times last year. This is the outfit I came up with: I originally wanted to wear a black sweater but do not own one, so I remembered this sweatshirt that is part of a set.

Standing ovation for wearing your scarves.
For some reason I can’t see the photo of the scarf with the sweatshirt?

I mostly wear scarves in fall and spring too; though I do wear the warm knitted a lot in winter it’s mostly for the warmth and not necessarily for the syling (though I do try to wear them stylishly).

Lol! Yes, in the winter the warm ones are great as an extra cozy layer!

For someone that never wear scarfs, me, this is so inspiring. Especially love the scarf as a belt!

Wow, there really are lots of ways to wear a scarf! They are very versatile. I’m watching Downton Abby at the moment and lady Edith is wearing a scar in her hair a lot of the time, and it makes me want to do that too : )
mimifce
Yes! I do that sometimes too!

I’ve also worn a scarf as a top and a skirt!

Wonderful round-up of ways to wear a scarf at this time of year, when it’s not seriously cold yet. It’s hard to pick a favorite but the scarf combined with necklace looks great and intrigues me – I’ve not tried that before, but now I feel like I need to!

That one was probably my favorite: just a little different and fun!

I’m loving all the different ways to wear scarves! I keep looking for silk ones when thrifting to expand my collection but no luck yet!
