Catalunya, Spain Part 2

We’ve been home for almost a week now and are still talking about how much we enjoyed our time in Spain!

Girona

In Girona, we ate lunch in a large beautiful park accross from where we parked. Parking was most often paying parking but usually just 1 or 2 euros for a couple of hours. Since we were driving a large, large van it was much easier to park in outdoor lots than parallel park most of the time.

A note to large families when traveling: call the car rental company to make sure the car/vehicle you are renting is a true 7 seater. We arrived at the airport to discover that the vehicle I had rented was a 5 seats car with an added two that popped out of the trunk which would not leave enough space for our luggage. Since we planned to drive accross France we had to upgrade to this large Mercedes van which added a couple hundred dollars to our budget but was very comfortable and roomy! My husband did miss not having a back camera to help him maneuver when backing up.

As I have mentioned in the past, I like to picnic while traveling to help keep us within budget. Lunches not provided by our hosts were usually baguettes, cheese and meat accompanied by fruit and a little chocolate. We made sure to have water with us since the days sometimes got warm.

The park in Girona was a lovely park to have lunch.

Calella de Palafrugell

The staff at our hotel was very helpful with their recommedations for some pretty destinations close by and one of them recommended the beach town of Calella de Palafrugell because of the beautiful coast and white houses. We loved it and returned there our last day before our trip back home.

The water was beautiful and clear, it was not crowded since school was not out yet and the beach was made of very small pebbles that were fun to walk in and play with. As a mom, I like that they were not messy! The boys enjoyed walking out on the many rock formations along the coast.

Just beautiful! As I have mentioned on Instagram, we want to go back and spend more time in that area at some point! Which is why I am redoubling my efforts in being thrifty so I can save more for vacations. Many of my fashion post will be about shopping your closet, thrifting and making decisions on how to update your outfits without breaking the bank. Trips with 4 kiddos are not for the faint of heart but it is really doable with a budget and friends you can visit!

I will leave you with some pictures of one of our dinners in Spain: the typical dish of Paella which is a rice and seafood dish: it was delicious!
