Nashville Zoo
A couple of weeks ago, we took a little mini spring break trip to the Nashville area. It is only a 3 hour drive and the boys had never been. One of the things I knew we wanted to visit was the Nashville zoo. We first stopped for lunch at an all vegan restaurant called the Sunflower Cafe which was 12 minutes from the zoo. I enjoyed my selection (a “chicken Caesar” wrap) and took some pictures of my bright outfit in front (I will be sharing my outfit in a post on Friday).
Of course, spring break was a cooler week than usual with our first day just around 50 degrees. We first visited the side of the zoo with the farm and started with a feeling of disappointment: there were a carousel, zipline.. but where were the animals? After watching a 4D movie (which was really good and inexpensive), we moved the left side of the zoo and were rewarded by a variety of animals, many of which we had not seen in other zoos.
The sloth was in the same area as the reptiles, in an upper level and it was so fun to see him up close and moving. While it was fun to see a few in the wild in Costa Rica, we never had been this close to one (the pictures are zoomed in).
The flamingos were really fun to watch too. The bright orange one above kept making calls which led him and all the others to move from one side of the pond to the other.
Since we have a guinea pig, we were excited to see the guinea pigs, but since it was chilly out, only one came out of the building. The axolotl was one amphibian we had not seen before.
The meerkats were moving around so we stayed to watch them for a bit (they usually hide at the Atlanta zoo). And the kangaroo enclosure was pretty neat as you walk without a barrier between you and them. Sadly, they were napping and not moving around. So after a slight disappointment we did enjoy the zoo. It is not inexpensive, as the adult admission is about $25 and $14 for children and you have to pay $10 for parking. Since we did not have to pay for lodging, I wasn’t stressed about admissions and restaurants (we ate our free breakfast at the hotel) and we stayed pretty close to what I had budgeted for the trip.
A bientôt!

I enjoy watching the sloths too; especially when they finally get around to moving. I’m glad you finally found some animals at the zoo.

Yes! That is what we enjoyed on this visit: all the animals were moving (except for the kangaroos).

It turned out really pretty.

I really enjoy visiting a zoo in 50 degree weather – animals aren’t so hot they are motionless or so cold they are hiding. Those sloth pictures are so cute!
