A trip downtown Nashville, TN
Planning a trip with family is a little different than planning a trip I would like to take with girlfriends. With that in mind, my visit to Nashville included things that I would everyone would like, including the hubby and children. I probably would have liked to visit the trendy murals, shops and restaurants, but settled for visiting places that the kids would be interested in.
The Parthenon
I thought this would interest the boys as it is a large structure, they know a little bit about Greek history from school and the building and sculpture are quite impressive.
Quick Stop by Opryland
I really would have liked to go to a concert here, just for the fun of it, but we at least got to stop by and take a picture by the big guitar! You get a quick peek at my day 3 outfit: comfy yellow jeans with a black and gold tee.
The State Capitol
We actually stopped here after the Parthenon and enjoyed a peek around. The building is really pretty inside. We had seen several state capitols from the outside, but I think that was the only one we visited inside.
Broadway Street
Expect parking lot cost a lot (we paid $35 for 3 hours). We enjoyed visiting the Johnny Cash Museum, but otherwise, I thought this street was a whole lot of nothing. Yes, there are lots of bars with live music, some louder than others, it can be interesting to people watch, the stores are overpriced and touristy and while we stopped by Margaritaville of some cold virgin drinks, I was not impressed. It smelled better than Bourbon Street in New Orleans, though!
So, I definitely enjoyed Franklin more than Nashville, but that could be because of our itinerary. I actually love New Orleans (minus Bourbon St), because of the history and architecture and all the cool neighborhoods you can walk through. So despite it’s proximity, I am not sure that we would go back to Nashville for a vacation.

We took our boys to The Parthenon when we went to Nashville too; they had asked to go since we had just finished listening to the Percy Jackson series that mentioned it and we toured the museum inside/underneath since it had lots of Percy Jackson movie memorabilia. My youngest two were really big into Greek and Roman mythology for awhile so I’d say we spent nearly an hour touring. I don’t think I’ve spent much time in the “real Nashville” on either of my trips there.

I think one of my boys read some of the Percy Jackson movies. I did find the museum downstairs pretty interesting.

A million years ago I went on a field trip to Nashville from Memphis. We visited Andrew Jackson’s home the Hermitage. And I think we went to mini pearls home. And the Parthenon. I think we have driven past Broadway but don’t remember ever spending any time there and my few other trips to Nashville. You are the second blogger this week who has shared that they enjoyed Franklin Tennessee so much. I think I had friends in college who lived in Franklin. My sister is in Crossville so next time I visit I will ask her to take me to Franklin. It is so much different to plan a vacation for the family versus one for just you or you and the husband.. looks like you made the most of your time there. Love the yellow and black..

I think we visited the Hermitage years ago!

I have a high school friend who lives there. I know she avoids downtown because of the crowds and noise. I suppose that’s the way it is with lots of really large cities. I had no idea there was a Parthenon there, though!

The Parthenon is kind of fun to do once.

It’s somewhere we’ve always talked about going but have yet to make it. The tourist areas are crazy and not our thing either.
But there is history there, and that’s what would be cool.

We do love the history of place and it’s nice that the boys usually enjoy that too. My 14 year is going on a tour of Georgia with classmates next week for 5 days and he will see place we haven’t seen.

I have not been to Nashville but I hear great things about it. I am sure the history is something to see and experience but you are right about planning a trip for a family versus for yourself or as a couple. My son is more of a homebody so sometimes visiting museums or places that doesn’t include trains means it will be cut short!

You definitely have to plan according to the kids’ interest.
