Spring Highlights: Mid Spring Bucket List Updates

Here is the spring bucket list that I had come up as I didn’t have any big goals I wanted to reach.

  • start having morning coffee on the porch
  • eat lunch outside on sunny days
  • plant zinnias and creeping Phlox (2 different spots)
  • run 4 mile Mother’s Day race with my Sunrise Crew and Lunch
  • decide whether to run half marathon (I did)
  • plan lunch and family lunch for mom’s 80th birthday
  • go on our vacations (booked for April and June)
  • save some money for vacations
  • thrift no more than twice a month
  • arm and ab workout twice a week
  • continue to walk and run 4-5 times weekly

I really did well with most of these and will give you a picture diary to illustrate that!

I had my coffee (sometimes breakfast) and my lunch outside most days. I made use of my new checkered tablecloth to eat in the grass and the porch tables if I wanted to stay in the shade or if it was raining.

I got together with a friend I hadn’t seen in a couple of years because she moved to Texas and we realized we had a Friday morning to get together while she visited her son. We hung out outdoors at a local coffee shop for 3 hours and had a grand time!

I planted some phlox, some more lavender and one more rosemary plant and a couple weeks later, the kids, my sis in law and I planted some zinnias, marigold and a few other seeds. Hopefully we will have a pretty square patch of flowers this summer.

Apart from about 10 days off after my longest run ever of 14.5 miles (we went on vacation and I had some hip pain), I have run or walk about 5 days a week. I typically have been taking Sundays off.

I typically post my walk/runs on Instagram to keep myself accountable and to encourage others.

I ran a 4 mile race in Atlanta and a half marathon in my town.

I was happy with both of my times for these races, but have now despaired of beating my two friends at a half marathon: they were about 5 minutes faster than I am. I would have beat my PR if I had just walked 7-8 seconds less: I made it to mile 10 before puttering out. My time for the 4 miler was  and 2:10:23 for the half. I do not especially enjoy racing, but do like the feeling of accomplishment. I think my favorite is a 10K as I can still do well without running like a maniac!

We found a poker table and some chairs (we still need a few more) but we have had a lot of fun. We also got a ping pong table that we put in the garage.

And there you have it! Mid spring update! I’ll be sharing about Mother’s Day in an upcoming post. We had a great time with my parents. And no, ab and arm workouts have not happened!

A bientôt!

Girl, you have done so well. I’m afraid to pull up my list for fear of all the things. I still haven’t done. Trying to work on my cruise posts but need to get my bucket list update done too. So proud of you and all the running you’ve done. Hope your hip is healing. It might just need a little down time. Great job on the half marathon. I’ve never run more than a 5k. Nowadays. That would be a struggle. Love all the work you’ve done in the yard. I can’t get lavender to grow and planted Marigold seeds and they’re not coming up. I get so discouraged. Glad you’re enjoying mornings on the patio or on your checkered tablecloth in the grass. I need to do more of that myself. Bravo!

Thinks are popping up! Looks like the marigold are coming up. Zinnias are definitely the easiest for me! They seem to be pretty hardy!

I’ve only gotten to eat outisde once yet his spring… our weather just does NOT want to cooperate! You’ve done a great job with your list so far.

Thanks, Joanne! Yes, now is actually going to be harder with the outdoors time because it gets so hot!

  • Jill

I cannot wait for the weather to warm up so I can sit outside on our deck in the morning with my tea. Congrats on your half marathon! Such an impressive accomplishment!

That’s so impressive about your running, even if you did want a faster time. Just remember, in the end, your time doesn’t matter. Just the fact that you set a goal and accomplished it is powerful.
And I love being out on the porch for breakfast…it will be too hot when you’re here most likely, but you never know.

It gets so humid and hot here, I am not sure how long I will be able to keep it up, but I do take advantage of the days I can. Today is perfect with a breeze and right around 80!

Such good goals! Congrats on the half marathon. Eating outside and enjoying the deck more is one of my goals, too!

    Miles of smiles,

I really do like those times outdoors. And having been keeping the birdfeeders full as made it so fun!

There is always next time for the half marathon. There are so many factors that impact it the farther the distance so I try not to worry too much when I don’t get a best time. I think just doing it is amazing! Way to go!

This is SUCH a good idea- coffee and lunch outside! I should make this a bucket list item for myself; I always mean to spend more time outside and then I get busy and forget.

And big kudos to you on those races! Amazing!

I go through phases where lots get done and other phases I don’t. So I am grateful for the wins.

I have months where I feel like much as been accomplished and others not. I have no idea how June will be!
