Booth Western Museum: Western Costumes from the Silver Screen
A few weeks ago, I decided to take a gander at the temporary exhibit at our local western museum. I am trying to plan more regular outings in my weeks, so it is not all about errands and necessities all of the time. It can be something as simple as a picnic or a visit to a local farm, or in this case, a local museum. The exhibit was part of the Davey collection. John Davey lives in New York and has been collecting Hollywood related items for several decades. He has more than 3000 Hollywood and fashion related items, many of which are from western movies and television programs.
The posters explaining the genre over the decades were very helpful and I recognized actors names and some of the movies. Growing up, we used to watch old westerns with my parents, and I especially remember John Wayne movies as he was a favorite of my dad’s.
The exhibit was displayed in two rooms, one focusing on movie posters over the years, while the other was dedicated to fashion worn in western movies.
Of course, I found the costumes very interesting as well as the choice of fabric which didn’t seem to be very comfortable and not very breathable. I was also astounded at the sizes. I had forgotten how big John Wayne was and had to look his height up, and some of the waists on the dresses were tiny.
Permanent Exhibits
Of course, I had to take a few pictures of some of my favorite artwork in the permanent galleries. I always find paintings I didn’t really pay attention to before, and today I wanted to share some of those.

This series of 3 portraits is just amazing! I have always been drawn to Native American culture, clothing and life and I could spend some time just looking at these. In fact, I need to return soon. I made friends with one of the ladies in the gift shop and I have a couple free passes to the museum.
There will be a festival in October and I hope it will be cool enough to enjoy the outdoor activities. We went last year and even though a lot of the events are the same, it is a fun family outing.

A bientôt!

It’s surprising that there would be a western museum where you live. What’s amazing is they wore all of that clothing and there wasn’t AC…right??
How fun

That artwork is amazing! I love the painting of the bull. It reminds me of the hairy coos (cows) we saw in Scotland. They had artwork like that in the gift shops.
