Summer Layering with the Ageless Style Link Up
There is something about wearing an outfit and feeling really good about it: not only the comfort, but the creativity and style! I threw this together last minute because I wanted to wear something different than just a dress and accessories. This is the type of layering that I can handle in the summer: it’s fun and it is not too hot. It also helped that I was wearing it in church which is kept fairly cool. I know it is just clothes, but an outfit that boosts your mood is worthy of a mention. So, on my way home, when Jodie asked me what my theme was going to be for our Ageless style link up for July, I suggested layering dresses, but we decided to make it broader and call it summer layering, so it would be an easy theme for all.

The idea of the outfit originated with me wanting to wear one of my wrap dress, but in a different way. I’ve done that before in the past and even have done it with this dress over pants and a tank in this post. I even took my pictures in the same place!
I will say I really like the contrast in the lengths of the dresses here: it creates a lot of visual interest. Sandals, both dresses and purses were all thrifted over the past few years. My belt came with a skirt and is a great color palette for summer outfits.

Two of the young girls from church (which are 10 and 13 and have their own sense of style) took the time to compliment me, with the 13 year old being very specific with what she liked about my outfit. I often compliment both of them on their outfits too!
So, yes, I do not dress like most of the moms out there (I had a new running friend comment on how she noticed my outfits as I walked by car line at the primary and asked if I worked outside the home), but getting dressed in the morning does bring joy to my day. So get creative in your wardrobe and iff you have a button down dress or a wrap dress, this is an easy idea to replicate with your own style!

That looks lovely and cool Mireille and just right for church. I find wearing a loose ourfit cools as it swishes around you. You look great wearing it. And how nice to get a compliment from those two girls!

That is true: it creates an air flow! Thanks!

I love wearaing wrap dresses but I never thought of using them in layering, I think it’s a great idea that gives you a chance to utilise your existing wardrobe. It adds a splash of colour and gives an edge to your white colour outfit

Yes! It a fun way to wear them!

Oh I am so glad you changed it to summer layers as I don’t have any dresses that I would layer together as I only have maybe 3 summer maxi dresses (that are all pullover) and one short dress (none of which compliment one another) so layering dresses would have been near impossible for me. Your outfit is really cute though.

I know! I talked to Jodie and we decided to make it easier for everyone!

You have lots of panache! I don’t think I could pull that look off but it looks great on you :).

I am sure you could. I was surprised how much I liked this combination.

Oh, Mireille, I love this long wrap as a duster over a shorter dress! The print is fabulous and I like the contrast in the lengths as well. I’m like you, even though I don’t work outside of my home, getting dressed every morning brings me so much joy. In my small rural town, I definitely stand out as an oddball but I don’t care because my crazy outfits make me happy! And getting a compliment from a young person is so flattering, isn’t it? I honestly cherish those compliments the most because kids just seem a little more honest when they offer an unsolicited compliment. I wear some of the craziest purple outfits to school sporting events and some of the girls that see me will go out of their way to compliment. It really is special! I love this ageless style theme, too. You know how I love my layers all year long!

Those compliments were so good! Those 2 young gals have a pretty good sense of style too, one of them really likes to add a corset to her dresses and has some fun outfits while still being modest and appropriate for church. The younger one is too cute. Anyhow, I did love this outfit a lot and it was fun that it was a last minute decision. I definitely wear more interesting outfits than most of the people around here lol!

You know you nailed an outfit if a girl or teenager compliments you :)! That’s awesome. Your dress looks like a kimono when worn like that. I love it!

I know, those are the best compliments!

Truly a great example of how being the boss of your clothes makes for a good day.

Summer layering can definitely be tricky when it’s so hot, but you always make it look effortless! I love how you showed that a lightweight layer can add interest without adding bulk. Your outfit is so chic, and I always enjoy seeing how you style thrifted pieces.
