I am finally getting to the last of my posts from our trip to South Carolina! I am ending with where we started and ended our trip. There is no better time to enjoy a couple of hours on the beach than after and before a 5 hour or so road trip. While not nearly as pretty as the white sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico which are our favorite, these two beaches were very pretty and a nice escape from our regular day to day life. Across from Fort Morgan, on Dauphin Island is Fort Gaines. We spent half a day on Dauphin Island and decided to visit this fort too in order to compare it to Fort Morgan and also just because we like forts! Construction on Fort Gaines began in 1819. The project was afflicted with problems one of which was its cost and it wasn’t until 1853 that work really started and it was mostly completed by 1861. It is a precursor to summer break, the weather has usually warmed up some and the sky if hopefully blue without a cloud.
