What to Wear to Church
I am having fun with these posts, but as I mentioned before, there is often not a right or wrong thing to wear for different occasions: it depends on your personal style, how much you like to dress up or not and how comfortable something is. However, it this instance, there might be some unspoken rules about what is appropriate to wear to your church. As I am Orthodox, there is an emphasis on modesty in church (which I think should apply to most churches). Some Orthodox churches are more strict than others as to what is appropriate, but if you are visiting a church or monastery in countries like the republic of Georgia, you are expected to wear a skirt and have covered shoulders (no spaghetti straps). I think some Catholic churches are like that in Europe. Churches often have wraparound skirts you can put over your clothes and scarves for head coverings. Monasteries are like that in the states too and some churches will have similar baskets at the entrance with the same.

My parish is more relaxed on the dress code (you will see some women occasionally wear pants), but modesty is definitely something emphasized. I typically wear maxi dresses or skirts, but I will wear dresses and skirts that go to the knee. I need to be able to bow and having something too short would be distracting to me and others and inappropriate. Here is a link to an article my friend wrote about women wearing head coverings in the Orthodox church (it’s part 3 of a 3 part article). I had forgotten she had used a picture of me for it!

I like to dress up for church, so my outfits are more on the dressy type, but as you see in this outfit, I can make a tee look dressy! I compare it to visiting someone of importance or a king. Wouldn’t you dress up to show respect to that person? On this particular Saturday, I decide to wear the tee I had worn all day and use it in a new combo. I love the contrast with the white skirt.

I tried to wear my scarves more this spring and this large thrifted one was the perfect size to wear it as a triangle over the hip. It has a few tassels which tie in with the skirt!
As per usual, I chose accessories that reflect the color in the outfit, this time focusing on the colors in the scarf: navy, caramel and white! Does your church have an expected dress code? I definitely have stronger opinions about what to wear to church than what to wear on a field trip, picnic or concert!
A bientôt!

The scarf over the skirt looks fab, and I like how you made a plain t-shirt work in a dressier outfit.

This is the perfect way to make a t-shirt seem dressier….the scarf on your hips looks amazing.
And I love your perspective because why wouldn’t you dress up for church?

Love your modest church look! Blue and white is such a fresh combination. I am a scarf lover, so am happy to see all types have been trending lately. I see so many creative ways to use them. Your take looks great. Love your little coordinating bag, too!

Such a lovel outfit. I love the idea of the scarf around the waist, I wear it around my waist when I wore black top and a black skirt to break the monochormatic black
