One skirt, 3 ways

Now that my closet has been rid of any items that don’t fit, annoy me or that I just didn’t like, I need to make sure to wear what I have before I decide to buy anything in one of the categories. Before buying new skirts, I need to wear the ones I have first. The following striped skirt was thrifted several years ago and while I do not wear it very often, it has made it through several closet decluttering sessions. Since it is still here to stay, then I should wear it!

I decided to create 3 different looks with it that I could wear in fall/winter since we still have some cool weather for couple of months hopefully.

Leather jacket and booties

I have found this green faux leather jacket to be a great addtion to my closet. It just seem to work with some many different outfits adding warmth and a cool edge. I chose the booties since they would be weather appropriate and I sometimes forget to wear them with skirts. I do like the length and style of this skirt and am not sure why I do not reach for it more often.

Sweater and boots

A little chillier? I thought this sweater would be fun with the skirt and give it a cozy look. Still something in my comfort zone and appropriate for church or any occasion. My son and I had some difficulties taking pictures midday with the sun and the wind. We tried different spots around the house until we had some pictures that I was satisfied with,

Cardigan and boots

While I thought of some pattern mixing, I decided to go with a fun color combo: I wouldn’t have thought to pair my coral cardigan with these colors but I think it works. I chose these boots to tie in with the cardigan.

Do you sometimes get stuck in a style rut? This is a fun exercise to help you create new outfits from your closet. I wore one of these on Sunday and probably will wear some of the other outfits soon. The skirt probably needs to be getting rid of since it has snags and I have to wear a slip with it but until I find a replacement, I will keep it in my closet. And if you look closely at the picture above you can see my teen photographer!

Cute looks! My favorite is definitely the first one – you’re right that the jacket adds a cool edge. I get into style ruts too (I’m in a bad one right now!) so I like your idea of just taking a single piece and creating a bunch of outfits with it.

It helps me realize that I have a lot to work with and then I realize that I actually like something that I thought I didn’t like that skirt.

Such great looks Mireille. Loving the stripes on the skirt and such a great mix of blues! My favorite is when you paired it with the faux leather jacket but the coral cardigan looks fabulous with it as well! And yes, I’m definitely one that gets stuck in a style rut, but I can’t help it…I like what I like and it’s what I stick with most of the times then. Having started fashion blogging is helping with stepping of my comfort zone a little though!

I know, it definitely has helped me look at my clothes in a different way and realize what i should invest in and what I shouldn’t. Also I am a lot more creative with what I have nowadays!

I can’t tell you how doing this with my pieces has made me love them even more. Especially when you pair them with different colors like you did. Love it Mireille,

I was fun to try something different with it. Typically I would wear that skirt with either a white or a black top.

I absolutely get stuck in a style rut; I found an outfit I like and tend to wear the same thing over and over. That is such a cute skirt with lots of style options. I too like it best paired with the leather jacket but they’re all very cute.

Thanks, Joanne. Take my outfit of the day pics for instagram has pushed me to be creative and varied in my outfits!

I still have a couple skirts I need to do this with: haven’t worn them in a couple years but not ready to let them go since they fit well and look good.

I enjoyed all your different looks but I the first was my favourite. It is so easy to get in a style rut and forget items in our closets. your photographer does a great job.

Thanks for the photographer compliment: he really is patient and does well! I think everyone agrees on the leather jacket look. That jacket has been really fun to have!

It’s been so dreary here that pulling out my skirts and dresses isn’t even on my radar. Hoping it clears up soon so I can create some new combos! Thanks for linking with Style Six!

Great idea Mireille, I have a couple of skirts I don’t wear very often and will challenge myself to style them 3 different ways! Thanks for linking up.

Thanks, Gail! I just ordered 4 skirts so I will have to do a no shopping for clothes next month but decided I am going to chose a weekday to wear skirts and not just the weekend. I have gotten away from wearing them and I kind of miss the variety!

Thank you! I actually added it to my donate pile today but it reminded me that I want to wear my skirts more and I have a few more coming my way. They are a nice change of pace from all of my jeans!

  • Mica

that skirt is lovely each way you’ve worn it! I think with the coral cardigan is my favourite, so colourful but cosy too! 🙂

Hope that you had a wonderful weekend 🙂

Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup! The new link up is live on my blog now, I’d love you to join again.

Thank you, Mica! It’s funny because I put the skirt in my giveaway pile right after. But got 4 new ones this week.

I like all of the outfits. It’s funny how your skirt changes depending upon the footwear. I always like the look of ankle booties with skirts/dresses, but have never tried the look myself. But I think I will.

    • mimifce

You should! I have read that wearing a bootie with a lower shaft looks better with skirts. I have two pairs that work well with skirts.

What a great skirt, Mireille! I love the colors and the pattern. I need to do some posts like this…styling an item in multiple ways. Especially since I almost never wear the same exact combination of wardrobe pieces ever. While I love all three looks, the first outfit is definitely my fave and most likely how I would style a skirt like this. But then again, I wear my black moto jacket multiple times a week when the weather permits. It was my go to jacket during my entire 10 day road trip and I wore skirts and dresses nearly every day. Great post. Thanks for linking up, my friend!
