Skirts Outfits!

Growing up, I was wore skirts every day. I do not think it bothered me much until I was in middle school. I looked different than the other kids at school especially when I went to high school and as a teen, I wanted to fit in. High school was a private school both in France and Mexico City so the children wore brand name and wore the latest fashion. I still had my group of friends but I really wanted to fit in more with the general population. As I became independent and lived on my own, I started wearing a variety of clothes including pants, shorts and still wore skirts of different length. In the past ten years or so, I feel like I have come into my own, figuring what I like, what looks good and keeping up with fashion with my own twist.

Today, I wanted to feature my skirt outfits. I always wear skrits and dresses to church (which is once or twice a week) and I like to add another skirt outfit in the week for variety. Jo Lynne Shane wrote a blog post or two about the rule of thirds to show why certain outfits look better than other because of proportions. Go read it! It really has helped me with outfits with skirts. I am figuring out whether tucking or knotting my shirt helps the proportion of an outfit if it doesn’t look right.

Knee length skirts

With knee length skirts, I either front tuck, tuck or leave my shirt out depending on the type of waist. Since I carry most of my weight in my middle section, I look in the mirror and usually figure out what looks best and does not emphasize that area.

I really like this length because it is very easy to style, looks great with wedges, heels or flats.

The length is modest enough to be acceptable in a variety of events or situations.

Funny how these 3 skirts were thrifted!

Midi length skirts

My new favorite way to wear skirts is with a graphic tee. Since I try to refrain from wearing a graphic tee at church, I usually style my skirts that way during the week. At first, I wasn’t sure about this length of skirt, but after playing around with it, I like that I can sit on the floor if I need to and move around easily. I think that shoe choice can really make or break an outfit in this case. There is sometimes a fine line between frumpy or trendy.

A wedge always looks good. With this floral midi skirt, I typically always tuck my shirt in! Rule of 3rds!

My Amazon rainbow skirt is kind of in between a midi and a maxi skirt and after trying different ways to wear it, I really prefer my top tucked in or knotted like I did with this purple tee.

Maxi skirts and dresses

I used to mostly wear maxi skirts and grew quite a collection, mostly thrifted. I am slowly donating most of my striped ones and grabbing a couple new patterned ones. Once again a graphic tee modernizes the look. Adding a denim jacket gives the outfit structure too if it is cool enough weather wise.

I really like my newish Shein green skirt! I just received a leopard maxi skirt in the mail and haven’t tried it yet. As I said, I am replacing some of my old maxi with some more modern patterns.

Turn your maxi dress into a skirt by adding a tee to it. I really love the colors of this dress but do not especially like that it is sleeveless so I usually add a jacket or a tee.

Denim jacket in action. This one is very old! The dress actually has a hole but the colors are so bright, I am keeping it for a few more years!

I added a cocoon cardigan in this case, since the dress was straightlined.

So while I do wear mostly jeans, shorts and joggers, I love the variety of wearing skirts and dresses too! Variety makes life and getting dress quite fun! Several of the dresses and skirts featured are 5 or more years old and a few are purchases from the past year. Finding and buying clothes that are going to be keepers in your closet is money well spent. Think before buying so that you are not waisted money and just contributing to fast fashion.

Your maxi skirts are fantastic Mireille! They look so good on you! Skirts are so fun to wear aren’t they! I love skirts too!

I do enjoy them and should wear them more! Which is why I have been figuring out which ones needed to be donated and added a few this year.

I really enjoyed this skirt fashion show, Mireille! You have some lovely outfits. I live in dresses and skirts in the summer. (Of course, I don’t have 3 kids to chase after!) They are more airy, cool, and comfortable than my jeggings. Fun post!

Thanks! I was looking at my Instagram feed and noticing that I was wearing a lot more skirts so figured it would be a fun post! Wearing a real fun leopard one today that I had been wanting from Amazon!

Good point about guys clothes, lol! We do have a lot more variety therefore we should have larger closets!

I’m trying to get better about wearing more skirts this summer. I tend to lean towards long maxi dresses or maxi skirts for some reason. I think I’m just more comfortable in them! I love that rainbow skirt. Still one of my favorites on you! πŸ™‚

So many cute skirts! I also went to a private high school, so I understand what you mean about brand name fashion. I love wearing skirts in the summer as they’re so comfy and keep ya cool! I think my favorite might be that black and white striped knee-length skirt, or the denim skirt.

Thanks, Celyn! Finding the right ones is the key. I have figured out what styles I like more and am more likely to wear!

Thanks, Debbie! I go through phases of wearing different things but lately trying to keep it really interesting by wearing a little bit of everything! Shopping a little and donating a little until my wardrobe is the way I like it.

All your skirts look great but I do really like the maxi’s. I always find skirts so versatile , you can change the look from casual to more dressed up so easily. You have a wonderful collection.

    • mimifce

Thanks, Jill! Now that I am curating my skirts to keeping only the ones I really like and donating the others, it is more of a pleasure to wear them!

  • Gail

I have serious skirt envy – I love all your skirts but the rainbow skirt is to die for! Great tips on how to wear skirts. Thanks for linking up!

    • mimifce

Thanks, Gail! I really am working on wearing them more and figuring out which I like and don’t. You have some great ones too!

I meant to get over here the other day when you posted this. I’ve always been a skirt lover. You have an extensive collection and have accessorized them all so nicely. Very inspirational. I decided to wear skirts more this summer as I can’t seem to find shorts that I’m happy with.

    • mimifce

Yes, definitely liking my skirts more this spring/summer: I think that having a look at what I have, what I actually like and what I want has renewed my love of skirts.

  • Mica

You have so many cute skirts and I like that they are all different lengths too – I have a lot of maxis, and some pencil skirts and a couple knee-length a-line for work…but nothing else! midi lengths are really tricky for me to pull off being so petite and unable to wear heels, but I do wish I had more variety with my skirts!

Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup! The new link up is live on my blog now, I’d love you to join again. πŸ™‚

I really changed them up some this year: half are thrifted, another 1/4 are new the rest are old. I am liking them and wearing them a lot more!
