Sunday Showcase: Christmas Home Tour and Link Up

Welcome to my Christmas Home Tour! Today Ada from Elegance and Mommyhood and I are sharing our Christmas decor and giving you a little home tour. I like how just like clothes can share some of our personalities with others, that Christmas decor can do the same. Don’t forget to stop by her blog post to see more pictures of her home decorated for the holidays! You can also join us with the link up by adding your recent holiday or fashion posts.

I would describe my decorating style as minimalistic but festive. I enjoy decorating but I do not like clutter so I had festive touches every where in small doses. I like farmhouse style in general so anything metal or wood is going to tempt me. I usually add a few more things to my decor each year and this year it was small Christmas villages thanks to the Target Dollar Spot.

Front Door

Our front door is very simple with a silver wreath I found last year at TJMaxx and I like that it can take me all the way to the end of January. The two lanterns with balls are old and from Ikea.

Dining Room

I am so glad that when I was looking for a tiered tray, I chose a small two tiered one: it is very simple to decorate and does not overtake the dining table. I just move it to the end of the table when we eat.

I think most everything on it is from Target and I love these wintery birds. They bring them back every year, are $5 and can be found with the Christmas decor.

I love this rustic buffet and always change up a few things over the years. I found these two hanging tealight structures at a yard sale and love that the colors lend themselves to Christmas decor. The buffet is made from the old floor of our town’s courthouse! Another Target bird and a few ball ornaments add a wintery touch.

Christmas Villages

I think I will add a few things to the boys villages each year. Maybe a new tree, house or gnome.

I saw someone add mini wreaths to the wooden houses on Instagram and I will keep my eyes out of some.

The cloth nativity above is fun for my 3 year old since he can play with it. Below there is a 3 figure one from France.

The villages are in the boys room and one of them is in the loft. The boys already had the bulb light strands from 5 and below.

Our Main Tree

Our main tree is in the corner of the living room. I shared some of the ornaments on Instagram as they all are pretty special and have memories attached to them.

The ornaments are either handmade by the kids or were gifts from friends.

From our wedding to the birth of our children, to symbols of friendship and faith, the ornaments tell a story.

The Boys’ Trees

Each boy has his tree, each found on sale.

I really like snowman because I leave them out from December to the end of January.

This one was a gift from a student about 15 years ago!

So there it is : nothing fancy or elaborate but it is me! Most of my decor is sentimental and has memories associated to it. I think I will reshare last year’s post about my Nativity scenes on Friday! I think I have added one more to my collection.

Do you go all out for Christmas or do you just a few touches everywhere? What is your favorite thing? I think for me it is my Nativity scenes and my tree ornaments.

Blogger Feature

I chose Michelle from My Bijou Online Life with her post Tweaking an Old Outfit. Michelle showed how she tweaked an outfit to create a new and improved outfit that was more flattering and pretty in color.

The snowman made from boxes is too cute! It’s nice your kids have their own trees too. We got the kids their own tree to have upstairs on sale for 50cents one year – decorations were like $1.50 as every box was reduced to 50 cents too! They have a lot of fun with it as it’s entirely their own πŸ™‚

Thanks for the link up πŸ™‚

Hope that you had a fun weekend πŸ™‚ Despite the very wild and wet weather here we managed to get to a couple of Christmas parties which was lovely.

They sure enjoy the lights from their trees at night! Thank you! I should do a house tour one day on stories: big house it is!

I love those hanging tealight structures; what a great find. Those winter birds are adorable too. I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for them at Target.

Yes, they are so fun and I keep them out all year round. They have those birds in the fall too with fall accents.

Thanks, Laurie! Our house is really big so I feel like the last 2 years I have added a couple more Christmas items to cheer it up. The last floor has the least since I spend the least time up there.

So pretty, Mireille! I love the little Christmas village! Everything looks so festive. I did very minimal decorating this year because I just wasn’t feeling it! I only decorated the living room. Our artificial tree finally met its demise so this year we only have a 3 foot tall potted spruce for our tree, but I love the simplicity of it. All the lights are around the mantle or outside instead of on the tree! Have a fabulous week, my friend!

The lights are my favorite part! We did that one year: just put up the potted 3 foot tree! I think it is nice to put up what you feel like putting up since we are the ones looking at it all day long. No pressure to keep up with the Jones! What works for one person may not work for another. It makes us unique.

I love that we did this and getting to know you better through your home tour. It was a very fun post and an interesting idea on my part, not? I love that each of the boys has their own trees. I will share my kitchen and chocolate+sweets bar area on the blog on Wednesday or Thursday and the final part of the Christmas home tour next Monday, hopefully. I love that you did a little tree for each of the boys too. Your sentimental ornaments are the ones I love the most, too. =) Thank you for opening your door (to see your decor) to me and your readers!

The boys do love their own trees especially at night! I should do a little video of the house. I know a lot of bloggers would die for our closets: they are not fancy but every closet is big in this house and there are lots of them.
