Inspired by Marsha in the Middle: Influenced to Add to my Closet

I discovered Marsha’s blog Marsha in the Middle just last month and in the first post I read, Scarves and necklaces and bracelets, oh my, she shared this cute pair of green light weight pants which I couldn’t resist! I have been trying to expand my pant collection to include a variety in cuts and colors and these pants just called my name. Marsha is a great writer and shares a variety of topics as she shares outfits so please be sure to drop by and visit her blog.

The two things that struck me about these pants were the hem shape which is really flattering and the color: a pale green polka dot. The polka dot pattern is small so the pants will be easy to wear with another print. The pants are from a company I had never heard, April Cornell and were 50% off when I bought them. They were only available in sizes XS and XL when I read Marsha’s post but from her description I could tell that the smaller size would fit with the elastic band and my shorter stature.

I really liked Marsha’s idea to pair a scarf with the outfit and I pulled this one from my collection. I love tassels! I wore this outfit the day following our photo shoot minus the scarf as we are still in the throws of summer heat and humidity. Thankfully we took these pictures in the shade in early evening. Not shopping for 45 days didn’t help my budget: I went a little overboard after!

I chose a thrifted bracelet to wear with this outfit since the color is about the same as the pants and my pretty studded sandals. They are Steve Madden but they are many dupes out there. They really go with everything and add a little edge to an outfit (and sparkle!). I bought them on sale last year. It’s been a busy end of August, beginning of September. Family visiting, sports with the boys, school… I am trying to get blog pictures in whenever I can and staying ahead with my posts.

I am still working on finding that balance with the boys between after school activities, free play and spending time with them. I get distracted sometimes with spending more time with one child versus another: I am thinking I should schedule a little date with each of them once a week. Maybe find an hour to spend with each boy a week.

Blog pictures is my one on one with my oldest! What should I do with the 10 year old and the 7 year old? Maybe a Chick Fil A trip, a run with the 10 year old or a bike ride. We could play on the trampoline (the big one outside) or go fly our foam airplanes at the park. I just need to plan some intentional time with them.

We took these pictures at a nearby pond. There are really many places to take our pictures if we take the time to look around. It usually is a manner of finding what time of the day isn’t too bright or shady. This pond is part of a neighborhood and has a track around it. We have taken pictures here twice before. I really want to take pictures downtown but instead of a 3-4 minute drive, it’s a 10-12 minute drive and I really try to get my pictures done quickly. Maybe one day!

A bientôt!

Oh, gosh! Thanks so much for the shout out! Aren’t those pants just so fun? I love this look with the Jean jacket, and I know just the one in my closet!

It is hard to find time with kids, isn’t it? Luckily, all three of mine were swimmers so we spent lots of time together driving to swim meets and practices. Each of them were definitely individuals and had their own tastes. I’m not sure how well I did balancing time with each. You are making a lovely memories, I’m sure.

These pants are awesome! I count all my purchase of end of August and September as birthday presents to myself lol! My boys definitely have their own personalities so finding what how they would like to spend time with me will be interesting.

I just visited Marsha’s blog for the first time today, and then I come over here and your posts mentions her. I never heard of her before. Small world. Anyway, cute pants. They look so cool and comfy.

Me neither: I just started visiting her blog a couple of weeks ago when I came accross it on a link up. Loving the pants!

I love this outfit, Mireille! So summery and relaxing. I just started reading Marsha in the Middle too.

I think your idea of spending intentional time with each of your boys is a good one. I was an only child and yet I still had intentional time with each of my parents. One of my fondest memories is my dad teaching me to play chess when I was 7. We spent many an evening at the chess board. My mom and I read together every night before bed.

That is very cool! My brothers are really good about spending time with the boys either playing chess or games or tennis with them and I know my kids really like that about them. Those simple things do make a difference. My problem is finding the desire to make the time: sometimes I just want space when they want my time.

I love your site! And I love the pond pics! I’d love to do photos in downtown Atlanta, but thirty minutes away doesn’t sound fun.

Thanks, Wendy! One day, I’ll explore Atlanta’s murals and take blog pics there. Just have to plan enough time to do so!

These are such cute pants! I love how flowy they are. Perfect for transitioning to fall too. A date with your sons is such a good idea. It’s really amazing at how much you learn from each child by doing this. September has been a busy month for me too. We are still adjusting with back to school schedules and after school activities. My son has a new teacher this year too so trying to figure out how she’s running the classroom! Hope your weekend is going great so far!

I really am glad I got them! Looking forward to a quieter month in October but spending time with my brother and family has been special if a little tiring.

The trousers are absolutely fabulous, Mireille! I bet they’re perfect in the warmer weather. The sandals are fabulous too. And, as usual, the setting for your photos is wonderful. You live in the most glorious part of the world!

Thanks, Suzy! I have been working hard on finding pretty spots for pictures. I think the same of Portugal and most of Europe: beautiful places and landscapes!
