Mustard Dress 5 Ways

Happy Monday! I actually thought I had written this post when I realized Sunday evening that I had not. Thankfully, I had the pictures ready!  For today’s photo shoot, I did not realize there was any wind until my son and I started taking pictures. The wind was really annoying and it really didn’t stop much. However, we trudged along and got it taken care of despite it being too sunny or too shady. I am sharing a new Target dress that I was influenced to buy by Melanie Miller when she shared it on Instagram. I knew the style would be versatile and I hoped the mustard color was a becoming shade because all mustards are not created equal. I did buy the dress when it was on sale for 40% off.

I decide to share how this dress could be styled with different colors. Of course it could also be paired with a variety of jackets and denim but sometimes color limits us when it shouldn’t.

Mustard with Teal

I actually put this top in my donation pile as I haven’t been wearing it and I feel like it has faded and stretched out. I have no idea how old it is only that it is more than 6 years old.  Looking at the picture, I really don’t feel like it is very becoming but I did find a replacement in a similar shade but different cut that I plan to wear soon.

Mustard with Mustard

I actually really like this combo not only because of the monochromatic look but because I really like the look of the vest over the dress. I don’t do it often enough but it’s a great little layer of warmth without being bulky.

Mustard with Cream

Of course, cream will go with any color whether it is in the print or not. I have several neutral colored sweaters that will pair well with this dress.

Mixing Prints

This is another combination I really like and I wouldn’t have thought about if I wasn’t writing this blog post. The thing about blogging about fashion is that it pushes you to think outside the box sometimes. I am not here to sell you things but to share ideas of what you can do with what is in your closet and sometimes to recommend some things that I have enjoyed buying and wearing.

Mustard with Burgundy

All but the mustard vest have been layers in colors that are not in the dress. If you look closely at the print the pinkish color is not burgundy but almost fuschia. However as you can see below, burgundy is a great color with this mustard dress.

So I recommend you play around in your closet to see which colors compliment each other and are visually pleasing when trying to come up with some new outfits. You may be surprised at what you can come up with. Of course, I do not always do this when getting dressed. Sometimes I wear something that is expecting but I am often willing to try something new.
