Maxi Dress as Kimono
Sometimes you purchase something and it is not exactly what you expect: I often forget to read the details about the fabric and while this dress’ shape and color looks exactly like the picture online, it is not the material I had hoped. It fits buttoned up but feels kind of stiff and I decided that I might like it better as a kimono. I have several ideas on how to wear it, but this was the first that came to mind (I also think that it would look great over a column of white.
In early fall, when it is a little too early for booties, I pull out my wedge sneakers. I think I have a tan pair, this black one and a pair of leopard ones. Sadly, I probably won’t wear this dress as much as I thought I would, but I do love the colors and pattern so I decided not to return it.
My mom recently gave me two gorgeous French berets (yes, she brought them back from France) that she had never worn. This color was the perfect match for the dress! The other one is a magnificent royal blue. I plan to wear them to church this fall as well as to add a little something extra to a bad hair day.
My mother in law was funny when she saw me walk out the door to take pictures: she said I look like a queen. I guess the beret looks like a crown and the kimono dress like a royal cape!
I first put together this outfit without the belt and necklace, but it really needed both. They help create a more finished look. It still feels like summer here, with cooler mornings and slightly cooler evening, but it won’t be long until it feels like fall! Then I can wear layers to my heart’s content!
I am going to miss my summer welcome sign: I hope I can find something similar that I like at Aldi again for fall. Something with a little pumpkin or two!
A bientôt!

What a beautiful outfit and the baret looks fabulous. We are enjoying a few last days that feel like summer here. But soon it will be rainy and cold. Gosh I hate that.

Thank you! It is still getting hot this week. Thankfully fall is usually not too rainy here.

I just LOVE how you made the dress work this way. And you might wear it more than you think. The other trick could be to wash it because it can make the material feel better??

It might help. The main thing for me is that it is not a stretchy material.

The dress is very pretty as a duster, and the outfit is magnificent with that teal beret!

Thank you! I am hoping to wear my 5 berets this fall and winter.

Are you able to wash the dress to get it to soften without shrinking? I think it’s a lovely print with beautiful colors. I hope you can get it to work for you. Maybe, you could make it into a top and a skirt? I don’t know exactly how you’d do it, but I bet it could be done. I love the idea of it over a column of white!

It might soften. It just doesn’t fit the way I want but I will probably wear it both ways anyways. Just not as often as some of my other dresses.

It’s such a shame when we order things online and they’re not quite what we’d hoped for…and fabric is such an important aspect isn’t it? But you’ve managed to come up with a fabulous solution, Mireille! I love how this outfit looks and the French beret is the icing on the cake in that beautiful colour. All Hail Queen Mireille!! (I love that your MIL said that lol!)
Big hugs

My MIL really had fun watching what I wear in real life and for my blog posts. She kind of funds a lot of my shopping as she gives me a little something to shop for each month. I always make sure to show her what I bought with her gift money!

Oh my goodness, Mireille, what a fabulous dress and beret! I absolutely love this teal color on you and the print on that dress is right up my bohemian alley! You are going to have much fun creating different outfits with this dress as a kimono. And I am really excited to see you in the blue beret now!

The color is so good, I figure I will wear this dress one way or another. I am planning a beret post in October if I get to the picture taking: 4-5 berets to share!

Your dress is really pretty this way! I love the matching beret, too. I think it’s a great idea to pair it with an all white outfit!

Once it cools off a little more, I will wear it that way.
Shauna
I adore these colors! Love the idea of using a maxi as a duster too. Need to try!

I love wearing button up dresses as dusters! This one looks so good with your jeans and you are right, the beret is a great touch with it! It’s good you can wear this in a different way and still get some use from your purchase 🙂

I need to try it with some other things soon.
