Summer Style: Floral Maxi and Knotted White Button Down

I love Pinterest! Sometimes it inspires me to only shop my closet and other times, it sends me on a quick trip to my local thrift store to find an item I think will be a great addition to my closet. And more often than not, I am able to find what I am looking for! While I did have a white button down in my closet, it was kind of bulky and oversized to the point of being too warm for summer. The excess material also made it difficult to knot (even if using the trick of wrapping a clear rubber band to give the illusion of a knot).

This NWT button down from Cato’s has cuffed sleeves and is very lightweight which makes it perfect for summer. I paid $2 for it and found another one with fun shirt tails that I will style soon on the blog in a classic denim look.

It is amazing how close the pattern in my skirt is to the inspiration photo. I have worn it in the fall, winter and summer. Because of the high slit, I have winterized it with boots and leggings and a sweater, but also have worn it with a high low blouse in spring. I think skirts and dresses are the most versatile pieces in your closet because you can adapt most of them for all 4 seasons. And isn’t that book bench fun? I think it is a new addition to our library because I had never noticed it before.

We’ve been having rainstorms most days and this was after a quick rain: it was humid! Even though it was only 88 degrees, I was a mess by the time I got home. I did wear this outfit IRL to church and not only for blog pictures! I switched to this summer purse for a week or so: my kids get really confused when looking for something in my purse at church: “which purse is it, mom?”. I definitely have a lot more purses for summer time than winter.

If you are wondering how I go about getting inspiration on Pinterest, I usually start with an item in my closet: striped shorts, red skirt, crochet vest and search for outfits using those key words. I want to work with what I already have in my closet and then pin the idea that I find. I try to pin ideas that are current and fit my style. Of course, sometimes, I open Pinterest and something is on my feed that I like and will pin, but I typically don’t look much at my feed, but get on the app with a plan or idea in mind.

I really liked the pop of turquoise color in the inspiration picture, so I put on my grandmother’s turquoise pendant and used a clear band to make it shorter so it could be seen in the shirt opening. We still had to make sure it worked in the pictures as it moved aside a few times. My bracelets are green and teal.

So, have I inspired you to try Pinterest to help get you inspired to create some new outfits in your closet? I hope you enjoyed this look! I really loved how it turned out: sometimes my ideas don’t look the way I though they would in my head, but this was a winner.

A bientôt!
