Layering Essentials for Fall with the Ageless Style Link UP
I love planning ahead when I can and when Joanne from My Slice of Life choose our November theme as fall layers, I knew right away which layer I was going to feature in this post. Here in the South, it is all about layering in the fall. What are essential fall layers? Sometimes, you only need light layers, sometimes you need heavier layers. This Old Navy shacket comes in oatmeal and rust as well as in different plaid colors and is a great in between layer.
Before purchasing it during one of Old Navy’s 50% sale, I went it store to see what color I would order as well as what size. I hesitated between oatmeal and the grey/white plaid but decided I would get more wear from it if it was a solid color. I tried both sizes S and XS and settled with extra small. Last year, I bought another Old Navy shacket which has more of a bomber cut that is plaid so this was the better choice for me this time.
The shacket is of a nice heavy weight and warm. I can see it worn over a dress or combined with a skirt. Even with a size XS, I can wear a light sweater under it.
Both my jeans (WHBM) and the sweater (Free People) are thrifted. I wore the sweater with a matching tank (from Target). I look forward to pairing it with some of my fall and winter skirts.
We enjoyed the morning light on this shoot but it also made for some shadows. Those are things we don’t always notice till after we take pictures.
Another fun feature of this shacket is the pockets. I always like having pockets to put my phone in or my keys or my hands if they are cold. Now did I need another light jacket when I bought this? No… especially that I was cutting down on clothes spending and really taking a good look at my closet and what should remain. I will say, that I keep my jackets for many many years though and I waited about a month before getting this one.
So what do I consider an essential layer for fall? I think it is good to have several choices so that you can wear something more casual or dressy and it is good to have options in weight and warmth. So yes to all of the fall layers!

This might be my favorite outfit on you that I’ve seen. I just love how it came together. Maybe its the jeans or the angle but you seem taller and I was instantly drawn to your lilac top. I think the shacket was a great color choice, yes it may get dirty, but I think it’s a lovely nuteral color that will go with everthing!

Thank you! I think these are one of my favorite pair of jeans even though I don’t wear them super often. And I really love that top (so does hubby, I wore it with a pretty bralette the 2nd time and he complimented my look).

You were wise to try-on on several jackets in-store for sizing purposes. I love the idea of a shacket as a grab-and-go layering option. And I have found that sizing is key to feeling good when wearing them.
Your choice of this light neutral shade is perfect!!!!

I was glad I did. I hate when I get something too oversized.

This outfit looks terrific on you, and I can see how the cream jacket would be incredibly versatile for fall and spring.

Thanks, Sally!

I just LOVE this outfit! It’s perfect on you too both with and without the shacket.

Thank you! It’s the jeans I think!

I have been so loving the shackets more and more, and this one is fabulous. With you and Bo and Amy all wearing them, we should have just made it about shackets, haha.
I can see why you’ll wear this a ton. Now, I wonder if you could layer a vest over it??

That is funny that we all chose to style the same type of layer. But it’s a good one for the fall. A vest… Depending how large the vest is I think… Might have to experiment!

Layers are key during the changable weater of fall, and this shacket layer looks great on you! I think the cream was a good choice since it is neutral and will blend with everything. Also it can lighten up a fall or winter outfit, colorwise! Thanks for sharing the inspiration, and have a good week!

I really agree! Have a wonderful weekend.

You look so goooood in this shacket and jeans, Mireille! I think layers are so important just about any time…except for summer! And, I really liked the play of the shadows in your photos!

No layers for summer… that’s why I am not a summer person… there is only so much you can do when it’s hot… can’t walk around in your bathing suit lol.
Lovely
The shacket looks great on you!

I really love that shacket on you Mireille – it goes very well with your hair. You look very cool and Scandinavian in these pix. Also I do like the jeans 🙂
mimifce
Thank you, Penny! I don’t wear these jeans often but they are a great cut. I’ll take the Scandinavian compliment any day =)

You and I are twinning this month, as my shacket is very similar. I saw your shacket when I was in ON but thought $80 was way too expensive, I see you bought yours on sale though. I really love our shackets. The color is so versatile.
mimifce
Oh yes, definitely not worth it at full price for what it is but for half off, it is worth it and especially for as often as I have been wearing.

Love your layering Mirelle! That Free People blouse is lovely and the shacket on top is perfect.

Thanks, Kathrine. I have been loving that shacket and really am so glad I did not get it in the plaid. It would have limited how often I wear it.
Mica Away From The Blue
That shaket looks like a great layering piece and it’s really nice with your jeans 🙂
Hope you are having a wonderful day 🙂

It is really nice and warm without being too heavy.
