Make a Classic Floral Dress Edgy: Part 2
Since I haven’t worn my floral maxis much lately, I have been finding ways to wear them without layering a jacket over them. Last week, I shared how I added a cropped denim vest to add a little of an edgy vibe to one dress (here) and today, I am sharing another way to style a wrap floral dress. I still love these dresses, but I seem to wear them more in the fall and spring with either a sweater or a denim jacket over them and with boots. I love how this outfit turned out, and while you can’t see it in pictures, the way the dress flew while going down stairs and walking outdoors gave me a princess vibe.

I shopped my closet for this look: it really stemmed from me wanting to wear my linen pants again and thinking about my dresses. I have done a dress as a kimono before (see post here), and again here, but neither of those dress had a staying power in my closet. One was of a weird polyester-like material while the other just didn’t drape the way I liked.

I thrifted this dress a few years ago in Chattanooga, and the colors appealed to me and the material felt good to the touch. I actually think it is an Amazon brand, but I have worn it over and over and given it a new life.
I think the stripe detail on the dress adds a little something and I love it both as a dress and as a kimono. I feel like wearing it open like this gives it a more modern vibe. To add to that element, I wore chunky sandals and found some pink accessories to pair with it.

Trying to take pictures in the middle of the day can be pretty difficult: it’s too bright, it’s too dark, and the lighting creates weird shadows. My son and I had to try a few different spots to get some usable pictures!

Wearing a dress as a kimono might seem “passe” for some, but I really enjoy wearing what I like and not worrying about what is trendy. Do I occasionally wear trendy items, sure! But most days, I just have fun picking out new combinations in my closet.

A bientôt!

That is a great way to get some more use out of your dresses!

I just have a few with either buttons all the way down or that are really wrap ones, but they do provide more ways to wear them.

The dress-as-kimono/duster is a classic boho style that transcends the trends! I really like how this one makes a statement over the oatmeal colored linen pants and white top, and the accessories you picked are just right.

Thanks, Sally! I really like the comfort and the style of this outfit!

I love how you changed up the dress this way…a duster is always in style.
BTW, this could be a great trick for a too-short dress…cut it up the middle and make it a duster??

That is a great idea that I will keep in mind with the next dress I want to donate!

Oh, I have heard that dusters/kimonos aren’t on trend anymore, but I’m just ignoring them! I like this dress with your linen pants. And, I know exactly the feeling you’re talking about when your dress swings out behind you!

I think trends are just meant for trying to induce people to buy more, so I really try to wear what I like with confidence. I may add a trendy touch here and there, but I know what I enjoy wearing and what I think looks good on me.

What a fun combo! I love seeing dusters (I only have one myself, black velvet) and think they should be an eternal trend if there have to be trends at all.
