Teal for the Holidays

A couple years ago, I style different color combinations for Christmas and the holiday. It is not all about red and green, but gold, metallics and pretty jewel colors like burgundy and teal. I think a festive look has a lot to do with the use of textures whether it is leather, suede, velvet or metallics. Today, I am sharing some inspiration with a pair of pants I found at TJmaxx earlier this fall.

Lace Teal Blouse

I thrifted this blouse this summer and I have worn it at least a handful of times this fall. It the perfect touch of femininity! The pants shimmer in the light with the silver thread through them and even my cuffs is shimmery.

Because the weather in the south can vary by 40 degrees in a day in the fall and winter, this look is definitely appropriate on a warmer December day especially if you pair it with a nice jacket!

Teal Short Sleeve Sweater

I also thrifted this top, but I have had it for several years and the past two years have hesitated about keeping it. While I wore it a lot the first years I had it, I have struggled to like it recently. I feel that it is bulky, but not in a way that I like. I just thrifted  a few oversized sweaters, but I think the difference it that they drape well and are thinner, while this chunky sweater just makes me feel larger. I am not sure it will make it another year in my closet. The reason that I share this is that clothes do affect our moods! Put me in a tulle skirt and I am instantly happy, put me in a sweatsuit and I feel lazy and not put together.

So while I think adding the belt and accessories add some sparkle to this outfit, it is not a favorite. Below is a close up of my earrings: love them!

It was a beautiful day to take some blog pictures: it definitely did not look like winter yet! I told my son, next pictures would be downtown by the Christmas tree: if we go early enough, there won’t be any people!

I just love teal and I love these outfts! I know what you mean about how an outfit makes you feel but I have to say I do not think you LOOK bulky at all in that teal sweater. But looks and feels aren’t the same when it comes to clothes.

Yes, I’ve been weeding out some of my sweaters. I did add 3 oversized thrifted ones, but the knit is thinner so I really like them.

Any shade of blue I feel is so good for the holidays…it’s like the first sunlight on a fresh snow patch.
    Beautiful.
I love that bigger sweater, and I bet if you play with it enough, you might find it works. For instance, is it stretchy enough to wear upside down? Or layer a longer shirt hanging under it to add more depth??

It’s weird how I have some oversized sweaters that I really like but this one, I just don’t wear. I am sure there are solutions and tricks for it, but it went to the community thrift shop in town where I am sure it will find a new home.

Teal is such a stunning color. It is a great choice for festive occasions as it is just a happy color. Both of your outfit are very beautiful in their own way but I can relate to feeling bulky with an larger sweater. I have one in burgundy and I do love it but every time I put it on, it makes me feel self conscious. I don’t like belts either so there goes that option!

I am learning that with sweaters, I really have to like them to wear them. I can do oversize but it has to be the right oversize and not bulky.

I love teal! The chunky sweater looks good but as always you know yourself if you like something enough to keep it. I tried a chunky cardigan in a bronze sparkly yarn this week but it was too thick and heavy, sadly. Those earrings are great for Christmas!

Yes, I am learning that I really don’t like keeping what I don’t like in my closet. Especially that I only wore it once last year and didn’t like it then. I had thrifted it maybe 5 years ago and wore it a lot then.

First of all those pictures at the bottom are lovely! I really like teal and all the jewel tones. That lace top is beautiful! I find if I don’t reach for something or it doesn’t make me feel happy then it’s time to pass it on. But have you tried a cute button up underneath it? I think adding a pattern/print or collar near your face might be a cute option?

I have passed on the sweater since then, but that was the same suggestion Jodie had. I may try that with some other sweaters I have for a fun twist!
