3 Thrifted Jackets for Winter
One of my goals this winter was to find a red coat as I had donated the one I had owned for years last year. It wasn’t my style anymore as it was more of an oversized fit and I was ready to part with it. With that goal in mind, I went thrifting one day in December. I have this love for layers even though it doesn’t stay cold very long here. Yes, we do wake up with temperatures in the teens sometimes, but it usually warms up to the 30s or even 50s that same day. Of course, we do have some days that it stays cold all day. With that in mind, I was looking for a classic peacoat or trench style and I wanted something that didn’t come from Amazon.
Olive Coat (J Jill)

The first coat I found wasn’t red, but I thought it was a close second to what I wanted. I love olive, the cut and fit were perfect and the quality of the coat was really nice. It was warm with a lining and had buttons and a belt with gave it a nice fitting. Even though it wasn’t red, I bought it (I think it was around 10 dollars.
Red Coat (London Fog)

The week after I found the olive jacket, I made a walk through the thicker coat section at the thrift store and didn’t see anything. I then walked down the skirt aisle and noticed that the lighter jackets on the right also included some coats. I decided to look at the red section and lo and behold, I saw a red coat. I tried it on and felt a little guilty about getting the olive one the week prior because I knew I was getting this one too! It was $12 and of course, not half off, but again it was in perfect shape and only needed a little lint roller. I already have worn it a few times and it will be one on repeat during the week and on Sundays this winter.
Olive Bomber (Guess)

This was an unexpected find! I was just thinking of bombers (this was on the same day I found the red coat above) and while going down the jacket section, I noticed this olive bomber. What made it really special was the fun threaded detail that goes up the sleeves and across the back. Once I tried it, I knew I was taking it home even if it wasn’t half priced. I think it was around $10.

I love the red jacket! It looks lovely and cute and I would also think it’s nice and practical because it’s short.

Yes, I do like that they are all on the shorter side.

That red jacket is gorgeous and the best of all 3 I think.
It’s interesting as where we are in the UK we have to wear long coats that reach well below the knees to stay warm. That’s because we mostly walk into town and don’t use a car so we have to wrap up well. All the coats you bought would be for Autumn/Fall and Spring but not for winter.
I bet you use the red one more than any of the others – it looks great with the scarf too.

Yes, here we just have the occasional really cold days. Most often these all work well. Sometimes, we might get a biting wind and temperatures in the 20s (F) and then we cover up more.

I think my mom used to have a red jacket like that. I love the tie details on the olive bomber!

The bomber was really fun. And the red one will be great for years to come.

You have done very well with these jackets as they are all so different , The red is so very stylish and a classic , the olive a great casual style and the bober is a fun style. I can see you wearing them all for many years,

That is what I thought when I got them.

A nice warm coat for $10 is a really good thrift find-and you found three! what great luck. I love the Guess bomber jacket, with the unusual black trim and laces. Thanks for sharing your finds, and happy new year to you!

I know all 3 will be in a closet for years to come.

Great finds, all three. I have a similar olive coat but mine doesn’t have a belt. Really like the way the belt gives your jacket some shape. The London Fog fits like it was made for you. And boy, you wear red so well. The bomber jacket is fun and will no doubt be something you reach for 3 out of 4 seasons.

I really think so. The bomber is kind of my favorite because it is so different but I do like both coats too. Now to get back to winter weather here.
