SCAD Fashion Museum, Atlanta
A few weeks ago, Kathrine (from Kathrine Eldridge blog) and I met up when she came to Atlanta to visit her son who is studying here for his Master’s degree. We met earlier in the fall and when I saw an ad for the SCAD Fashion Museum, I thought it would be a fun outing for us since it was near where she was staying. SCAD stands for the Savannah College of Art and Design and they have a campus in downtown Atlanta. The museum is located at the top of the building and the admission fee was $10 with free parking (which is a definite plus in downtown Atlanta!).

The ad I had seen and the description talked about movie fashion, however the exhibit at the time of our visit was the Christian Dior exhibit which turned out to be really interesting and beautiful. The museum is located at the top of the building and parking deck, and has pretty views of Atlanta and a green area which was very tastefully done (this is turf, not grass).
The first part of the museum showed the different stages of how a dress comes to life from drawing, mock-ups and choices of fabrics. It is amazing how creative some of the designs were while not being too out there. Most of the dresses seemed to be very wearable and Kathrine and I drooled over several of these.
Below, the video shows my favorite display of dresses! I also took of video of a beautiful collection of purses which I will share at the bottom of this post.
Other favorites were the dresses below. So many beautiful fabrics, sequins and different silhouettes!
The collection of dresses from the picture on the right were all worn by different actresses at different fashionable events. It was fun to read who wore what: the center dress in that picture was worn by Natalie Portman.
I actually really enjoyed this last display from the students at SCAD: each of these designs had a bee related element. Below it a close up of with the hexagonal shape of a bee honeycomb.

Below is half of the collection of the bags that were on display! I am not a much of a designer bag person, but there were a couple of these that caught my eye.
I hope you enjoyed this virtual visit of the SCAD Fashion museum. I will be sharing some pictures of Kathrine and I in an upcoming post which will recap some of the fun moments in May.
A bientôt!
