Where to Eat in Greenville, SC
Ten days ago, 2 of the boys and I spent a couple of days exploring Greenville, SC while my 15 year old participated in a singing barbershop workshop camp. With 2 and a half days to explore and staying in a hotel with free breakfast (we used points for a 2 nights free stay), I was okay with splurging a little on food. I did tell the boys that we would drink water at restaurants which also allowed us to order an appetizer here and there and dessert once. I wanted to somewhat stay within a certain budget.
Keipi’s
When I realized there was a Georgian restaurant in Greenville, I knew we would eat there once. We headed there our first night and followed our GPS to a somewhat industrial area where the restaurant was located. It is in a warehouse area that is being revitalized and the setting was pretty cool with glass garage doors open to a courtyard area. While the food was not as good as the Georgian Corner restaurant in Roswell, GA, it was still very good. What sets Keipi’s apart though and makes it a worthwhile trip is that it takes into account the Georgian culture of hospitality and where meals are an experience meant to be enjoyed and a time to celebrate. Keipi’s hosts supra dinners: a keipi is a toasting dinner: a toast master called a Tamada contributes to the experience by facilitating the toasting. While we did not participate in supra dinner, you should (many dinners in Georgia were like this during our visits, when we got together with our Georgian friends )! From our table we could hear the different toasts and see the abundance of food served family style at the long table which can probably seat a dozen people or more. Community supras are hosted on Fridays but private supras can be hosted with a reservation any day of the week. As it turned out, my FIL (whom I had texted a picture) knew the owner, so I interrupted the dinner for a bit to introduce myself and put him on the phone. It was really nice to spend a few minutes with him.
Pita House
In a few words: Pita House had the best falafel I have ever eaten in my life! The food was authentic and tasty and priced reasonably. Pita House is very popular at the lunch hour and the parking lot was practically full. One of the owners was out there directing traffic a few times and as soon as someone would leave parking space, someone would pull in and the same with seating. We found a spot quickly after we ordered and enjoyed our lunch. Only cash is accepted, so I stopped at the bank prior to arriving at the restaurant. Both Pita House and Keipi’s were restaurants that I found thru the Greenville visitor center’s website.
Blue Fin
My son chose Blue Fin for dinner our second night. All 3 of us ordered sushi and we shared a lava chocolate cake for dinner. The food was really good!
Bridgeway Station
There were many restaurants to chose from at the Bridgeway Station (I’ll be sharing more soon), and we enjoyed our meals. I recommend the area for how picturesque it is and there are the dining options.
