Flower and Apple Picking in Ellijay, GA

While enjoying a weekend in Ellijay, GA with my family as well as my brother and his family, we decided to go apple picking at the orchard we usually visit, R&A Orchards. When we arrived we were told that there would be only one kind of apple to pick (there are usually 4 or 5 different ones you can pick) because a late frost in April had affected the trees and 60% of the future crop was lost. To offset some of the loss, the orchard created a U pick flower area with zinnias, wildflowers and earlier some sunflowers. We chose to pick two cups of flowers: you could fill…

    Camo Dress for $3

Attention getting title? A couple weeks ago, I received an email from Kohls with a $5 giftcard coupon for my birthday. I do not shop often at Kohls but if I do, I typically look at the clearance section. Coupon in hand, that is what I did: my goal was to find something interesting for a low price so I would not be much out of pocket. To my pleasant surprise, I found this cute shirt dress in the Juniors clearance section for $8. I wasn’t sure it would work as it was size small and I usually size up one or two in juniors but I tried it on…

Gem Colors for Fall with the Ageless Style Link Up

I had grand ideas of taking my pictures gem panning in Dahlonega (the boys love to go) but when it came down to it, I just wanted to get my pictures taken for this post. While I did come up with the theme this month (I figured it would be an easier one for all), I wasn’t completely inspired with my outfit. I really liked the top part but should have gone with more constrast with the bottoms. White jeans would have been really sharp but I just posted an outfit with white jeans last Friday and I thought about a skirt or black jeans but it would have been…

    Ziplining with Screaming Eagles Adventures

I didn’t plan much for my little anniversary getaway with my husband a couple of weeks ago. I knew I wanted to have an overnight trip without children, something in the mountains and thought that ziplining would be fun as it was right there at Amicalola Falls. I did not book ahead of time as they have a no refund policy but knowing that we would do it on a Monday, I figured there would be some spaces available that day. Thankfully there were a couple of spots at noon. I wore my zella joggers (several years old) that had zipper pockets which allowed me to take pictures in addition…

    Floral Pants: 5 Ways

It is quite easy to come up with 5 ways to wear something when it is a neutral or a solid color. Is it as easy when it is a pair of printed pants? I found that it was not difficult at all for me to come up with 5 different ways to wear one of my favorite pair of pants I bought this year: my Old Navy pixie ankle skinny pants. With Navy I shared this outfit in this May post after I bought the pants on clearance at Old Navy and I have been finding different ways to wear them ever since. With Yellow The pants have gold…

    September Date Night Look

I have been trying to share some date night looks as I have been trying to go out more often (as in at least every other month) and spend some quality time with my husband. You got a sneak peek of this look on Wednesday in my post about our overnight stay at Amicalola Falls lodge as I actually wore this outfit for dinner. I typically shop my closet for date night or sometimes buy a new top which was the case this time. I found this cute top at Gabe’s for less than $8. I am not sure how long it will last but I will say that most…

    Amicalola Falls: A Romantic Getaway

It had been way too many years (my best guess is 5 years) since my husband and I had planned an overnight trip without the children. With my youngest being almost 4, I knew that it would not be difficult to leave him and his brothers with my brother for a short 24 hours or so getaway. Once I made that decision, I told my husband to take a vacation day and started to look for lodging options. I originally wanted to stay at a bed and breakfast but they all required two nights stays and that was not the plan this go around. I also wanted to go to…

Inspired by Marsha in the Middle: Influenced to Add to my Closet

I discovered Marsha’s blog Marsha in the Middle just last month and in the first post I read, Scarves and necklaces and bracelets, oh my, she shared this cute pair of green light weight pants which I couldn’t resist! I have been trying to expand my pant collection to include a variety in cuts and colors and these pants just called my name. The two things that struck me about these pants were the hem shape which is really flattering and the color: a…

The Rain Brings out the Mushrooms

Last week, my brother and I visited the nearby Indian Mounds and I couldn’t believe the number and variety of mushrooms we saw. I started taking pictures and then decided it would be fun to share those pictures. I used my google feature to identify the mushrooms so hopefully it is fairly accurate. These are Lepiota, a gilled ground dwelling saprotrophs that enjoy rich, calcareous soils. Here is another shot of them. It was interesting to me to see where the mushrooms chose to propagate as there were some species at the base of trees, some in piles of mulch. and of course in the middle of decomposing piles of…
