Dressing Up an Athletic Skirt and Working on Proportions

Jodie suggested dressing up athleisure for our second blog post, so I packed up my athletic skirt which I hadn’t worn yet this year. It is a great skirt for travel as it can be folded up easily in a suitcase and I did wear my aubergine one on the plane to and from Costa Rica a couple years ago. In the past I have worn it with a simple tank, so I wanted to see how I could dress it up. Once again, I need to thank Rob (Jodie’s husband) for these great pictures. And please stop by Jodie’s blog to see how she dressed up her athletic skirt:…

Dress over a Dress: Tulle and Shirt Dress

Now this was a fun outfit! All summer long, I have been going through my closet making sure I wear a little bit of everything and will pull out a piece to style and wear in a new way (or old way sometimes). I bought this tulle overlay dress a year ago (and wore it three timesĀ  on the blog), so I wanted to find another way to wear. Since I had worn it over a skirt (here), over jeans (here) and under a skirt (here), I wanted to try something else. I let it hang in the front of my closet for a few days, and then inspiration struck!…

    Yellow with Brights and More

A few weeks ago, I went to visit Jodie from my yearly solo vacation (no kids, no hubby) and had a wonderful time! We ate, we talked, we visited, we walked, we shopped, and just had a great visit. Of course, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take some blogging pictures together, so I joined her for two themes, the first one being what to pair with yellow. I chose to pair it with brights while she paired it with pastels and Valerie with neutrals. Please stop by her blog to see their outfits! And a big thank you to Rob, Jodie’s husband for this set of photos! Yellow…

Classic Look with Thrifted White Button Down

I do not have many button-downs in my closet because I haven’t found many that fit my style and that I have wanted to wear. However, this summer I changed that one day with scoring not just one but two white button-downs while thrifting and bonus, they were 50% off so my grand total was less than $5 for both! I shared one a couple weeks ago (here) and today, I am sharing the other. This one caught my eye with its long shirt tails and 3/4 sleeves: I usually will cuff the sleeves, so that detail was a no brainer, “yes, ma’am, I am buying this”. Because of the…

    Western Summer Style Inspiration

It’s been a lot of fun mixing it up this summer with my outfits! Brights, neutrals, dresses, shorts, boho and now some western inspiration by shopping my closet after seeing an idea on Pinterest. I thrifted my crochet vest last year and have worn it a few times on the blog (with a dress here , over a monochromatic look here and over a tee and linen pants here), so it has been a good purchase. Today’s look is very casual and fun, and I found a new spot to take pictures: instead of cotton, the fields have been planted with corn this year, so the background is a little…

Beat the Heat with the Ageless Style Link Up

It’s time to beat the heat with the Ageless Style Link Up. Today’s theme was chose by Amy from Amy’s Creative Pursuits and I was inspired by one of the #wearitwednesday’s Instagram theme of bathing suits for today’s post. I really don’t mind wearing a bathing suit and wear 2 pieces, tankini sets and one pieces, but really do not like how I look in pictures when wearing one. And for modesty’s sake, I don’t usually feel confortable sharing pictures of me wearing a suit on social media. However, I really liked Jodie’s idea of wearing a bathing suit as part of an outfit and I have two tankini tops…

Green Pants and Grey Tee: Simple Casual Look

Why do I blog and have take time to come up with fun outfits every day? Blogging is a creative outlet that uplifts my mood and can brighten my day. It gives me a purpose that is not tied to my “mommy status”, it’s something that I do for enjoyment and to inspire other to enjoy this thing we all have to do everyday: get dressed. It keeps me grounded to something positive on harder days. It is something that I can have control of, what I chose to wear and share is an expression of who I am. The weather and occasion may dictate what I wear, but I…

    Summer Patriotic Looks

Since I came up with a number of new outfits shopping my closet for the week of the 4th, I thought I would share them with you today to remind you to play around with combinations because there are many ways to wear the pieces you already have in your closet. If you click on the links to my other posts featuring red, white and blue outfits (here and here), you will recognize some of those tops and bottoms! This year I concentrated on some of the things I hadn’t worn in a while. Maxi Skirts I have had this thrifted tank forever: the cute pattern and the drape work…

Shorts for Summer: Casual but Stylish

Hello Summer! I was grateful for a longer spring than usual here in Georgia, but now that it is hot, hot, hot, I am wearing quite the variety of outfits, from maxi dresses to flowy pants to shorts. Today, I wanted to share an outfit I wore a Sunday afternoon last month. I wanted to create a comfortable outfit that was a casual but also stylish: I wanted to look put together without letting go of comfort. This is the outfit I came up with and most of the pieces I am wearing are thrifted. These cute sandals finally bit the dust and this was the last time I wore…

Summer Style: Floral Maxi and Knotted White Button Down

I love Pinterest! Sometimes it inspires me to only shop my closet and other times, it sends me on a quick trip to my local thrift store to find an item I think will be a great addition to my closet. And more often than not, I am able to find what I am looking for! While I did have a white button down in my closet, it was kind of bulky and oversized to the point of being too warm for summer. The excess material also made it difficult to knot (even if using the trick of wrapping a clear rubber band to give the illusion of a knot).…
