Summer Style: Floral Maxi and Knotted White Button Down

I love Pinterest! Sometimes it inspires me to only shop my closet and other times, it sends me on a quick trip to my local thrift store to find an item I think will be a great addition to my closet. And more often than not, I am able to find what I am looking for! While I did have a white button down in my closet, it was kind of bulky and oversized to the point of being too warm for summer. The excess material also made it difficult to knot (even if using the trick of wrapping a clear rubber band to give the illusion of a knot).…

A Day in NYC with Kids

I typically have our vacations pretty well planned out, but for this vacation, I had a list of possibilities and chose and adapted our schedule with visiting with my father in law and wake up time of the rest of the family. So while I really wanted to leave for NYC earlier, we didn’t get to the train station till 10 AM which put us in the city around 12:30 since we took the train from Port Jefferson and took a subway from Penn Station to Central Park.  In the past, I had a great fold out map of the city and I really wished I had it this time:…

White and Blue for a Day in NYC

While I did not do a great job packing appropriately for the weather for this trip to Long Island and New York, there are some things that were worn once or twice! Since I wore my newly thrifted jeans and olive pants several times on the trip, I wanted to wear something different when we went into the city. The weather was going to be the perfect, just around 70 and the skies were clear. No rain on the forecast! I settled on my white denim which I wore on our travel day over. It may sound like a strange choice, knowing that I would be sitting on the subway,…

    Bright Colored Outfits for Summer

I am an equal color opportunity fashionista when it comes to wearing neutrals and bright colors in my daily outfits. I do go through phases when I am drawn to subdued colors while at other times, I crave colorful clothes. Thankfully, my closet is full of both. As summer settled in, I started reaching for my bright tops and decided to share some of my favorite daily outfits with you. I wore this for a quick outing to our Saturday Farmer’s Market. I usually focus on not browsing (or I will spend too much money), but on this Saturday, the French bakery booth was sold out. I ended up picking…

    Port Jefferson, Long Island, NY

My father in law has lived on Long Island as a monk in an Orthodox Monastery for probably the last 18 years or so. We used to visit frequently when our oldest was younger, but actually had not gone back to NY in the past 13 years. This year was the year and I am already thinking a short trip at Christmas might be nice! We visited with him, but also visited Long Island showing the boys some of the places we had visited in the past and discovering new spots. We’ve visited Port Jefferson before, but we had never taken the ferry there. It goes to Connecticut and back…

Daily Outfits: Long Island, NY in the Spring

Well, this was one of those trips where I should have repacked after the forecast changed! It originally was going to be sunny during our week on Long Island, but the weather turned out cool and cloudy for most of the trip. I had packed a variety of shorts, linen pants in navy, white and stripes and while I wore some of what I packed, I also went thrifting for 2 pair of pants: a pair of cropped jeans and a pair of cropped olive pants. I wore sweatshirts everyday for at least part of the day and mostly wore the one pair of sneakers I brought along. This is…

Tropical Prints for the Ageless Style Link Up

It’s time for a new Ageless Style Link Up and I chose the theme of tropical prints because it’s a perfect summer print and I knew I could shop my closet. Tropical prints are often bright, but you can also find some more subdued colors if that is more your style. Since I am on a bright color kick right now, I chose two of my bright pieces. I chose to style two new outfits with items I had, and I am sharing a collection of other tropical print outfits below for more inspiration. I love the happy color and vibes these outfits give! Flowy Top in Orange Tones Summer…

    Port Jefferson: Long Island Museum

Even though we have visited Long Island a few times, we actually have never visited the LI Museum. As it turned out, they were between exhibits in the main museum areas and doing some renovating, so only the Carriage museum was open to the public. Because the whole museum was not available, the entrance fee was waived. The carriage museum shares the history of transportation before the automobile. The carriages are house in a large building which has 3 floors. Most if not all are real carriages and vehicles that were donated to the museums. They are not replicas. I found that to be really neat as often items, larger…

Caramel Crossbody Bag and Summer White Dress

While I was looking at spring and summer trends for 2025 and getting some outfit inspiration on Pinterest, I can across some outfits featuring clothing pieces and accessories in caramel tones. A warm, pretty brown with golden undertones, caramel is a rich neutral color that I decided I wanted to add to my closet. I promptly went thrifting and found a few pieces such as a corset top, a tank top and a pair of shorts. I didn’t find a purse that appealed to me so I stopped by TJMaxx and came across this pretty crossbody bag! The color was exactly the rich golden brown I was looking for, the…

Caramel Shorts with Chambray Button Down

While pinning some inspiration pictures on Pinterest, I came across this cute little outfits featuring a pair of caramel shorts. To my happy surprise, I found a cute little pair of shorts in my new favorite neutral (caramel) the next day. My youngest and I went to take pictures by the pond for a change of scenery and you definitely can see how the inspiration outfit was the idea behind my outfit. I loosely based my outfit on this and of course, I could have made it a closer replication by wearing my white sneakers and a hat. But now that I have a pedicure, sandals are going to be…
