    A Gorgeous Maxi Skirt

Skirts… So many different styles! One of my favorites is probably the maxi skirt, especially one that has a great flow. On our trip to New Orleans, I stepped into a little overcrowded boutique on Magazine Street. There were racks filling all of the spaces, flowy dresses and skirts, hats and accessories. It was cramped but some of the pieces really caught my eye. One of them was this absolutely gorgeous skirt. It was not a budget piece but I was on vacation! So I decided to buy it and wore it the following day and just loved it. Look at all of the color possibities: olive, pink, fuschia, yellow!…

    Wrap Skirt Summer Outfit

I am always surprised that I am more drawn to my dresses than my skirts even though I have a nice variety in each category. This fun summer challenge of wearing skirts in July has helped me utilize that section of my closet more and helped me create more outfits that will keep me cool and stylish in the summer heat. Today, I am presenting you my wrap skirt that you saw this spring styled 4 ways in this post. I wore this outfit out and about during the week and capitalized on the little yellow flowers in it to create my outfit. I could try a contrasting color in…

Floating into the 4th of July with the Sunday Showcase

I have been cranking out some blog posts preparing myself for a month of skirts in July with Ada but had to share this fun floaty dress I wore one day in New Orleans for our July Sunday Showcase. I picked it up in a boutique at home thinking it would be nice on hot days with or without a belt. I refrained from adding a belt and let it loose in these pictures. The only thing I will say is that it did need a slip so I stopped by Walmart to purchase one before the pictures. I thought that this garage door accross the street from our rental…

Mini Skirt For Skirtmas in July

Today kicks off a July fashion series presented by Ada and I featuring skirts. We will be sharing 12 styles of skirts over the month of July so make sure to stop by the blog Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays for some skirt inspiration. I will have a few travel posts sprinkled in on some Fridays but for this month those will be my posting days. Today we are sharing mini skirts: a mini is a skirt with its hemline well above the knees, generally at mid-thigh level. I thrifted this WHBM skirt years ago and I have styled it before on the blog probably in a daily outfit recap or…

June No Shop: Success or Failure?

As Ada and I start our month long skirt series, you are going to have a couple extra weekly posts here and there. I wanted to share my May/June clothes spending recap before July started. My goal was to thrift more than retail as well as attempt a no shop June. Without further ado, here is what I spent and some of my favorite outfits from June. May I had a little giftcard money leftover so the first few items were $0 out of pocket. Upscale Cheapskate consignment: 2 tops, 1 pants: $36, $0 with gift card. My favorite top is below! Target Clog Sandals $28 $0 with gift card…

New Orleans: A Stroll in the French Quarter

We visited the French quarter twice on our vacation, once taking the trolley down from the garden district and a second time parking several blocks away from the touristy area. It was hot but we enjoyed the architecture and the sights. While we did see some homeless population, there were a lot less people on the streets than I expected. We did a quick walk down Bourbon Street (my least favorite as it is of no interest to me with all the bars and smells) but mainly we enjoyed the picturesque buildings in the French Quarter. The trolley ride was enjoyable as all of the windows were down and you…

Casual Royal Blue Tshirt Dress Style

When I packed my bag for our week in New Orleans, I packed expecting heat so I chose several dresses and 2 pairs of wide leg pants. I wore this dress on another vacation last summer (when we spent a long weekend on Tybee Island) with a kimono and sandals (here). This time I went very casual with white sneakers and white and black polka dot earrings. I cannot abide anything too tight and constricting when I am going to be walking around in the heat and humidity so this dress was a great choice. I love this color and have a few more pieces in my closet in this…

The Sculpture Garden In City Park, New Orleans, LA

You might have had a glimpse of the sculpture garden in Monday’s blog post: this was another of my favorite spots we visited in New Orleans. It is free (donations are appreciated) and quite a large garden with water features, sculptures and walkways. It is located in the City Park area in New Orleans which is a great spot for families with playgrounds, the botanical gardens, the museum of Art and much more. The setting for the garden is quite beautiful. I am always taken by water features whether it is a fountain, a river, a pond or lake. Add a bridge and will sit there and enjoy the scenery!…

New Orleans: A Peek into the Garden District

We stayed in an Airbnb in the garden district on Tchoupitoulas about 4 blocks from Magazine Street. We were directly across the Mississipi harbor and train tracks but quite frankly I only heard the train once during our week there. We were walking distance from a Rouses Market grocery store and there were 2 restaurants (which we did not try but looked very popular) on our street a block away. The location felt safe and we had a parking spot in front of our shotgun house. No, this was not our Airbnb but a pretty one nearby. We walked a couple of times to Magazine Street, once for dinner and…

Statement Red Pants for Breezy Summer Style

Oh, my beloved red statement pants: you have seen these before (here with leopard) and I typically wear them with black as in my first picture for my travel outfit. I’ve also paired them with a grey tee and a navy graphic tee. They always get compliments and they are very comfortable in the summer heat. After our last vacation wearing hiking clothes, I really wanted to wear some fun pieces on this vacation. I picked some things from my closet accordingly: colorful, flowy and fun pieces that would work together or solo. We visited the New Orleans botanical gardens earlier that week which is located in the city park.…
