    Tennessee Aquarium

The main activity on our Chattanooga trip was visiting the Tennessee aquarium. We had not been in at least 10 years but my oldest had been on a field trip in 5th grade and all of the boys have been asking to go for the past year. The year membership for a family is $175 and we went ahead and purchased it since it was only $26 than the cost of admission for our family, I wore a comfortable outfit since I knew we would be on our feet all day. It was a beautiful day outdoors and I wish that I didn’t have to carry everyone’s layers once we…

    Leather jacket, 4 ways

While this jacket is faux leather, it is well made and I do not feel the need to add a real leather jacket to my closet. I have another faux leather jacket in the blush family which is more of a moto jacket. I did use to have a nice brown real leather jacket that was lined but after many years, I finally donated it. It was getting too tight for me. I really love having a colored “leather” jacket because it adds interest to any outfit. Even better, this is the jacket my sister in law gave me so I didn’t have to spend  a dime on it. The…

Budget recap: Chattanooga, TN mini vacay

I pride myself on usually being thrifty and staying on budget. Vacations are a little different as in I still have a budget but we do not get anxious about each dollar spent so I planned the budget for our 2 days in Chattanooga accordingly. My budget for this mini vacation was $600 which seems high for just 2 days but our family of 6 was going to eat out and visit the aquarium. Free fun and small savings Here are a few ways we saved money: we ate our free hotel breakfast which was pretty nice since it was a Hilton Garden Inn we got our parking for free…

    Westin Sundial Restaurant in Atlanta

On Monday, I shared a special date night outfit for a night out in Atlanta. Today I wanted to share a little about our experience at the Westin Sundial Restaurant. Because we live a little north of Atlanta, anything downtown takes us between 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. The restaurant is on the 73rd floor of the hotel and has beautiful views of the city. We were to meet my husband’s uncle and his girlfriend and knowing that they were not far away, we asked to be seated. The young hostesses refused to seat us even though we had reservations because our full party was not there.…

    Date night outfit

Last week, my husband’s uncle took us out to the Westin Sundial restaurant in downtown Atlanta. I will spend a little time sharing about our experience there in Wedsnesday’s post but today, I wanted to share about my outfit. The pictures were mostly taken at my house so the background is not very pretty but I wanted to share how you can shop your closet to create a fun date night look. I actually have not been doing so well with trying to be careful with my spending lately. While I am sticking to my list (I wanted to add skirts to my closet and that is what I purchased…

    Mom’s French Crepes

When I mentioned making crêpes in my last Friday’s post several people mentioned how they enjoyed crêpes so today, I am sharing the recipe my mom gave me. I am not sure whether she found this recipe in France but she probably did since there is where I grew up eating crêpes. Instead of an American breakfast for dinner as I sometimes make me, we would have crêpes for dinner and usually sweet and not savory crêpes. Having crêpes for dinner was a special treat. I do not make crêpes very often for the simple reason that with a family of 6, we go through a batch pretty quickly. While…

Budgeting for a small trip or weekend

I do not know about you but when I am not planning to go on a full blown vacation (aka a trip abroad or a full week at the beach for example), I am a lot more careful about the amount of money we are going to spend. Case in point, the 2-3 days vacation we are going to Chattanooga, TN next week. We have been to Chattanooga before since it has some fun family activities and is less than 2 hours from Atlanta. Since it is not an exotic location and the purpose of our vacation is just to get out of the house and do something fun as…

    One skirt, 3 ways

Now that my closet has been rid of any items that don’t fit, annoy me or that I just didn’t like, I need to make sure to wear what I have before I decide to buy anything in one of the categories. Before buying new skirts, I need to wear the ones I have first. The following striped skirt was thrifted several years ago and while I do not wear it very often, it has made it through several closet decluttering sessions. Since it is still here to stay, then I should wear it! I decided to create 3 different looks with it that I could wear in fall/winter since…

    Weekend routines

I strive on routines. I love the school year because I know when the children need to get up, go to school, when I can work on my blog and visit friends. I also do like summers and school breaks and for the long breaks I usually create some routines such as when snacks and meals are, some outings and when we go to the pool for example. That still allows for some freedom and some impulsivity too. Now surprisingly, Saturday can be my least favorite day of the week! Why is that? Here is what I came up with: lack of schedule lack of plans To battle my dislikes…

    Favorite traveling outfit

A couple weeks ago, I shared some of my favorite vacation outfits. Today, I wanted to share a few of my traveling outfits which are outfits that I wear either traveling by car or plane. I wore this outfit a couple years ago for our long plane journey to Tbilisi (Rebublic of Georgia) and have worn several variations of it using these Zella joggers on roadtrips. That trip usually takes us a little over 24 hours so comfortable shoes are essential and these joggers (which have been sold out for a while) dry easily if wet. They have an elastic band and I definitely got my cost per wear out…
