Summer Weddings with Ada’s Thursday Moda Link Up

While there might be fewer wedding invitations this summer as some have posponed their wedding or made it a smaller affair, it is always fun to consider what to wear to a celebratory event such as a wedding. As most of my friends are in the same stage of life as I am, married with kids, there has been fewer wedding invitations in the past 10 years. However, having younger cousins, we have gone or been invited to a few summer weddings. Sadly we missed the last two by being out of the country on vacation. Today, I am pleased to have been invited to join co-host the Thursday Moda Link up with Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood one more time. Don’t forget to head to her post to see more pictures of her featuring her summer wedding looks!

Ada looks amazing in her asymetrical red dress! Va Va Voom! Her closet definitely has some dressier options than mine, lol! I love her sparkly accesories!

I would not typically shop for a new dress for a wedding since I like to be able to wear something more than just a couple of times so for this post, I took a look at my closet and settled on two dresses that I thought would be lovely for a wedding and appropriate for a warm summer wedding. Both dresses are sleeveless. To make these dresses appropriate for the occasion, I chose sparkly and dainty accessories, elevating the look of the dresses.

Halter Top Dress

I featured this dress in a post last summer showing ways to make it appropriate for my church (needed to cover my shoulders). Today, I am giving all of attention to the shoulders: I think that a halter top dress is very elegant and a flattering style for most women and this is one of my dressiest dress.

Since I do not own a strapless bra, I use a bra strap solution similar to this little gadget to hook the straps together so they are not seen. I love the detail of the neckline of this dress and the little keyhole. I have worn this dress for my 40th birthday, beach pictures but not at a wedding yet! I wore my block heel black sandals because they are comfortable to stand in.

I chose dressier accessories: my brother gifted me the beautiful earrings for one of my birthdays and the cuff was a sale find a long time ago at either Charming Charlie’s or a similar store.

Floral Knee Length Dress

Another option to wear to a wedding is a knee length dress. I chose this one because it is a very comfortable dress: while celebrating friends or family, I do not want to be body conscious: if it is too tight fitting, I might worry about my middle section and have to concentrate on holding my stomach in: not fun for an afternoon or evening of fun and happiness!

This dress is what I call a double thrifted dress: my friend thrifted it but it became to big for her so she gave it to me! So a dress to wear to a wedding doesn’t have to be expensive: it can even be free! I have a couple of other dress that would have been pretty for a wedding such as the one I featured in this post about our date at the Westin Sundial Restaurant in Atlanta but I would be more conscious about standing upright.. so I would not chose that for a wedding. Another is a little shorter so while nice for a date at a restaurant it might not be as practical for a little dance or moving around.

I seldom wear the gold cuff but I love the statement it makes. I do not have any pumps or really dressy sandals so a pair of wedges or heeled sandals is what I reach for when wanting to look dressier.
