Hiking and Vacationing in Style

This Spring break vacation took us to the Red River Gorge area in Eastern Kentucky. I will be sharing our scenic hikes over the next few weeks, but today I wanted to share the outfits I wore on our hikes and outings. I did a great job packing this vacation as I wore everything but a pair of earrings. Shoes were important and I wore my hand me downs Timberland hiking boots when hiking and my cute shoes on our other outings. The weather turned out gorgeous apart from our last day so I was able to do without layers.

Peach

My goal this spring and summer is to add some color to my closet and this $5 Target tee fits the bill. It works quite well with this scarf and I wore this on the way to Kentucky. The scarf came in handy with the AC in the car and for lunch. In the background is the fire pit at our rental. This was a nice area!

Yellow

I went shopping for a few colorful tops before our trip and I picked up this lightweight hoodie sweater at Cato. I also wore this little crossbody clutch on the easy hikes so that I would not leave my wallet in the car. Wearing hiking boots was definitely needed on these hikes since there were some muddy areas, lots of rocks to climb and slippery areas. Never say you can’t hike in style: you can do it and still be perfectly comfortable.

Red

Yes, more color! This top, I found at TjMaxx. After a month of no shopping, I took one day to order and shop for a few or more things! One of the things I love about my Nickel and Suede earrings is how lightweight they are: I can hike with them and not feel them and wearing bright and large earrings just give a hiking outfit a little omph! This is my one and only pair of socks that work with these boots: any recommendations for soft socks that work with hiking boots?

Joggers and Scarf

Now this was probably not the best choice of shoes for a day of walking! We visited Keenland racing track in Lexington, the arboretum as well as a small town: by the time we were at the arboretum, I had to take my shoes off and walk barefoot. Might be because I should have sized up but they are so cute and water resistant too!

Light weight scarves are another way to add some pizzazz to an outfit. I love them with a casual tee whether solid or print.

Joggers and Leopard

These horse stables were also on our rental property. They are not in use but were a cool backdrop for some OOTD pictures. I only wore this for half a day after a day of hiking. Joggers might be a one of my favorite pair of pants when on vacation. Elastic waistbands are my friend!

Graphic Tee and Joggers

We ended up doing a great job planning a balance of activities on this Spring break. We spent a day in Frankfort and walked the grounds of the state capitol, visited a wildlife center and stopped by the Buffalo Trace Distillery. After our other sight seeing day, I knew to wear shoes that would be comfortable all day and I made sure to wear socks. These Tiesebon sneakers are fun but don’t have the best support so socks help with that. Tiesebon has fun selection of affordable sneakers but beware shipping is really long.

I will be sharing one more outfit on Thursday for the Ageless Style Link Up and I did not photograph the last two days outfits. I was very pleased with my recent colorful tops that I added to my closet and know I will be wearing them over and over.

Do you try to add a little style when hiking or vacationing?

I try to add style when hiking but often feel like I fall short of that. Your outfits have given me some great ideas though. We’re planning a hiking weekend next month for our anniversary and I’m already trying to plan out some fun but stylish hiking outfits.

Fun!! This looks like it was a great getaway! I love how you added a pop of color to your hiking outfits – all of your outfits are so cute! My hiking outfits are not the cutest, I hate to say. I really need to step up my game. (Adding color is such a good idea.)

Thanks, Shelbee! I am doing so well with adding color to my closet this month that I am going to have to have a no shop month in May lol!

Yes, Ageless Style link up is tomorrow! I will definitely stop by yours and link up there too! I do love those 2 colors a lot: I did so well with finding some colorful tops in April.

New look for the blog? Very fresh and inviting! You certainly pulled off the challenge of looking stylish while comfortable on your hiking break. I love the lightweight yellow hoody and how you accessorized with scarves and earrings.

    • mimifce

Yes, Gail! I do like how light it feels. I still need to do some tweaks but I have been lazy lately about taking the time. That new yellow hoodie is fast becoming a favorite of mine.

So many cute looks!! And what a fun trip. I think my favorite is either the peach one or the one with the joggers and scarf… I absolutely love those stylish leopard sneakers! So cool!

It was a fun week even though I have come to the conclusion that I do not want to do a week’s vacation anywhere but the beach because it is not restful. Maybe one or two nights and stay at a hotel so I don’t have to cook and clean!

    • mimifce

I guess I consider hiking more like sight seeing so I don’t typically wear my workout clothes for it.

What great colourful outfits you wore for your holiday! I really like that printed scarf with the peach tee – so nice to see the colour you’re addign with scarves! Even though we are almost halfway through autumn it’s been pretty warm so far so it’s not scarf season yet 🙁 I can’t wait to get them out again!

Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup! Hope that you are having a good weekend 🙂
