7 Days of Dresses: Winterizing your Dresses

For my 7 days of dresses challenge on Instagram, I shopped my closet and winterized them to fit the weather and my activities. Many times, I added a pair of leggings to shorter dresses especially if it was really cold and had fun adding different types of top layers to them. I may not be as creative as Jodie (she is sharing her post here today with her dresses styled for winter) but I am happy to say this was a fun challenge and I created some new to me outfits. Thanks to the ladies who tagged me on Instagram with their dress outfits and thank you, Jodie for joining me every day!

My mom picked up this cute little dress for me on clearance for $2 at JC Penney. Since it is a summer sleeveless dress, I added a sweater which I tucked into a belt. A pair of leggings with riding boots kept me warm.

I sometimes add a pendant or a belt to this sweater dress but I kept it simple for this snowy day. Sadly the snow did not stick even though it snowed all afternoon as the air was probably just a little too warm. I pulled out my snowboots for fun though! Here is how I have styled the dress in the past.

I actually can’t remember if I have paired a vest with a winter dress before but I really like the combination. This is a great light layer for most mild winter days in the south.

Just like skirts, shorter dresses are great for showcasing boots. The poncho was just the perfect amount of warmth over a 3/4 sleeve dress. I think about half of my dresses are 2nd hand or hand me downs! Interesting fact!

Another summer dress for Sunday church: I added both a sweater and a moto jacket but ended up not wearing the moto jacket as the sweater was warm enough. I did keep the scarf on as it adds interest and pattern to the outfit.

Same outfit as last winter but the left side (this year) is without a filter so the color is closer to IRL. The sweater is the same as the grey one above with the pink dress. It is so versatile and flattering it is tempting to get another one but I do not need any more sweaters. They are both a couple years old now and still look new.

Who says you can’t wear brights for winter. This dress has long sleeves and my mom gave it to me when it got to big for here. I have worn it with a cardigan and different denim jackets but pairing it with this yellow denim jacket (which Jodie influenced me to buy last year) is my favorite way. It was actually cold on this day so the scarf was a welcome addition. Here is the post when I first wore this oufit last year.

As you can see, my favorite way to winterize an outfit is to either add a sweater or a layer. Jodie is much more creative than I in this aspect but we both manage to create versatility with our dresses whether they are actually meant for that season or not. It is nice to have some pieces that can be worn all year long! Don’t forget to read her blog post as she will surprise you with her creative way to layer dresses.
